OnePlus names own Android ROM as Oxygen, Hydrogen in China

It's no secret that OnePlus is cutting its ties with Cyanogen over the fiasco with Micromax in India. It has been developing its own custom ROM to replace CyanogenMod in its future devices. And while it isn't yet revealing what that ROM will look like or will offer, it is now announcing its chosen name. Its ROM will be called "Oxygen OS", at least in the rest of the world. But in China, it will be called Hydrogen instead.

Given how young the OmniROM custom ROM project is, it's bound to be updated far more frequently along its journey towards more stable releases. To keep those updates easy on both the user and the network, the OmniROM devs have worked on an over the air delta updater that tries to keep ROM update sizes to be as small as possible.

Android 4.4 may change the way we use custom ROMs

Android 4.4 brought on a lot of changes to the operating system in general terms, but one change to how the system reacts to perceived malware could have a ripple effect. When booting, Android 4.4 uses a device mapper (dm-verity) to reduce the risk of root kits on your OS. This new device mapper checks the filesystem storage, and attempts to detect modifications at the block level.

And so the epic journey continues as the almost legendary HTC HD2 smartphone receives yet another breath of life. Thanks to some ardent souls over at XDA developers, the well-aged smartphone is getting the latest iteration of HTC's custom Android interface, the HTC Sense 5.

For those lucky among you who own a Galaxy S 4G or an Infuse 4G, a Gingerbread, 2.3.5 ROM has been released for your downloading pleasure. While this isn't necessarily an official update by any means, it does suggest that an official update may come in the near future. But for those of you with one of these rooted beauties, the wait is no longer over.
