Android Gingerbread

Android Community Week in Review – Week 43 2010

Welcome to Android Community's week in review for the days in November between the 8th and the 12th. This week felt some lovely rumblings in the information leaks department, especially having to do with what's being called the Nexus S, a new unnamed "flagship" phone coming out at the beginning of next year, and secret whisperings about the release date for Android 2.3 Gingerbread! Then, if you've been completely out of the loop because of games on your cell, stay out of the loop with some rockin new levels in the Angry Birds update - but be sure to get the right one - one of them's basically a virus (sort of!)

Gingerbread Comes Out Tomorrow(?) at Web 2.0 Summit

So it's what the people at the Web 2.0 Summit 2010 call "fifteen years and two recessions into the commercial Internet." And you know what that means, of all things? Gingerbread's coming out. Or at least, that's the word around these internets. The Web 2.0 Summit is an event that happens once a year, leaders of the Internet Economy get together and have a big party where they talk about all kinds of great stuff they're doing and pat eachother on the back and make big announcements.

HTC Desire from Virgin Mobile Now with Android 2.2 Froyo

After untold ages of waiting, HTC Desire users are receiving an update. Not just any update, an update to Android 2.2 Froyo. Gingerbread Laden Phone with Huge Display to be Samsung “Flagship” for Early 2011 [UPDATES: Pic 2, Name?]

So our pals over at Engadget have been given a "1st Half Flagship" deck image here with some rather interesting news on it. It appears to be a giant phone with "ultra sleek design", running Android (2.3) Gingerbread, and toting either a 4.3" or 4.5" WVGA sAMOLED2 screen. The guesses appear to be that the little s before AMOLED2 might mean SUPER, and it's unclear as to why two different screen sizes are listed on the same page. The phone boasts 1080p playback and recording, it's a "Universal e-book Reader," and it's got a massively awesome 8 Megapixel photo camera with LED flash.

With all this fabulous flow of info jamming out including the giant Best Buy slip-up : Nexus S Mentioned Briefly on Best Buy's Website and Nexus S Very Possibly Codename GT-I9020 [PLUS: HANDS ON!], we've just got to ask: are you excited as we are to see what Gingerbread will hold? PlayStation… Phone? Yes! PlayStation Phone!

So Sony Ericsson is going to blast out a phone branded with none other than the ubiquitous PlayStation marking on it. The greatest controller ever is being applied to a telephone, and not just any telephone, one with Android 3.0 (looking more and more everyday to be the new Gingerbread.) With it there's be a custom Sony Marketplace for games made just for this device, 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655, 512MB of RAM, 1GB or ROM, and a screen ranging from 4.1 to 3.7 inches. That ugly egg thing in the middle is more than likely a multitouch touchpad.

Android 2.3 System Information Screenshot

Oh my gosh, look at this amazing fantastic image that will make your eyeballs bleed and your hair fall out and your hands explode. Yes! This is a screenshot from the fabled and legendary Android 2.3 system that'll be coming out very soon it does seem. It might even smell tasty and be in the shape of a... man? A... a gingerbread... man? Yes maybe that is what it'll be called.

Gingerbread YouTube, now ported to Eclair

So you want the YouTube from Gingerbread, but you want it jammed into your Eclair? You've got strange tasty treat tastes, don't you? Lucky for you, XDA forum member rolle3k has done just what you need to port that futuristic app into your still-yummy Android OS 2.0/2.1 Eclair.

Android Gingerbread : First Details

Android Gingerbread, the most tasty version of Android to come out yet. It's still in development, but the details are peeking through the cracks. Let's take a taste! First of all, there's a very possible graphical overhaul. Google's hired ex-Palm user interface expert Matias Duarte, pointing directly at a lovely new look that'll blow everyone else out of the water (not that this is going to be the hardest thing to do in the world, you aesthetic sinners, you.) Standard icons have a new simpler look, appearing now to have all come from the same illustrator rather than a gaggle. And then there's green, so much green!
