Larry Page confirms over 750 million Android device activations
Back in September Google announced that nearly 500 million Android devices had been activated to date, and at a rate of nearly 1.3 million a day. Today along with the news that Andy Rubin will be stepping down as head of Android, Larry Page also threw in a new number for us to boast - and it's a big one!

Flurry claims 50 million Android and iOS device activations during Christmas week
Christmas Day and the week immediately following it are obviously always going to be big for new device activations, but today we're finding out that the final week in December might just have been the biggest on record for iOS and Android. That's according to analytics firm Flurry, which said today that iOS and Android device activations for Christmas week topped a whopping 50 million. Looks like a bunch of people picked up a shiny new tablet of smartphone in the final week of 2012.

Google’s Eric Schmidt predicts 1 billion Android activations within a year
It's no secret that Android is massive. It's growing at a staggering rate, and according to Google's Eric Schmidt, the number of activated Android devices in the wild is going to reach a billion within the next year. That's a billion, you know, with a B. That is an absolutely obscene amount of devices.

Verizon sees more Android activations than all other carriers
If there's one thing about Verizon, they love touting their huge 4G LTE network, as well as the Android phones that go with it. It isn't too surprising then that between June and August of this year, Android devices accounted for around half of all device activations on Verizon. That's a lot of Android phones.

China passes United States for most Android activations
Holy cow. According to a new report from analytics firm Flurry, the number of newly activated Android users in China has surpassed that of the United States to become the world's fastest-growing body of smartphone users. The stat holds true for iOS as well, making China the #1 country for total number of smartphone users on the planet. That's hardly surprising - they've got the largest number of people after all, nearing 1.5 billion as of 2010 - but the rapid adoption rate in the country just a few years after the emergence of the current mobile market is astonishing.

Android growth continues: 450,000 apps, 850,000 activations daily
As previously indicated, Google's Android booth at Mobile World Congress is pretty amazing. But it's not all slides and pins: the company took the opportunity to interrupt full-grown tech journalists embracing their inner child for long enough to drop the latest numbers detailing Android's meteoric rise. First up, Android has now passed an average of 850,000 new phone and tablet activations every day - and that's just the number that Google keeps track of through its own apps and servers. It's a growth of over two hundred and fifty percent since MWC 2011 a year ago. Anyone want to start taking bets on how soon it will reach a million?

Google updates: 3.7 million devices activated Christmas weekend
Yesterday Furry posted some preliminary number for mobile activations on Christmas: approximately 6.8 million iOS and Android devices were registered on Sunday alone. Unfortunately, the mobile analytics company didn't differentiate between the two biggest platforms. Google's Android boss Andy Rubin shed some light on the subject via Twitter, stating that on Christmas and Christmas Eve 3.7 million Android devices were activated in total.

Android activations, app downloads jump to massive levels on Christmas day
If Google saw three ships on Christmas day, on Christmas day in the morning, it might just need them to store all the cash it's going to make from a slew of new Android devices. Mobile analytics firm Flurry reports that combined activations for Android and iOS devices went from an average of 1.5 million a day (at least 700,000 Android smartphones, the rest divided among Android tablets, the iPhone, iPod and iPad) to almost 7 million on Christmas, making it easily the biggest day of the year for new smartphone and tablet users.
