Android Community Evening Wrap-Up: March 5, 2012
We hope everyone started off the their work week well, and even though you may have been busy - we're here with the daily wrap-up to make sure you didn't miss anything. Early this morning, word got out that "Key Lime Pie" may be the next version of Android OS, after "Jelly Bean". Bear in mind, this is still a rumor at this point, and the information comes straight from a tip over at The Verge. Another rumor that followed, is that ASUS could be the manufacturer for the Google Play or 'Nexus' tablet. We had known Google was preparing a "tablet of the highest quality" for some time now, but that's pretty much it.

We've seen a few more hints at the future of Android today from Google's MWC keynote. Eric Schmidt spoke for roughly an hour on what to expect for the future of Android development, how Android will become even more economically friendly than it already is, and how Chrome for Android is already the most secure/safe browser on the Android Market. We should see Android devices reach the $70 range by next year. More specifically, he stated "Last year's $400 phone is next year's $100 phone". Apart from the keynote, Google's vice president of engineering for mobile, Hiroshi Lockheimer, hinted for Android 5.0 Jelly Bean to have a fall release instead of the earlier summer rumor. This is somewhat comforting, considering Android 4.0 is finally starting to show up on non-Nexus devices.

Best Buy already taking pre-orders for HTC One X
The HTC One X stole the show yesterday at Mobile World Congress, as HTC showed off their new 'hero devices' for 2012. All three looked extremely nice, and going back to the aluminum unibody as we saw in the HTC Legend a while back was a nice touch. As you know, HTC will launch two version of the One X, an international version, and one specially designed to take advantage of AT&T's 4G LTE network. It seems Best Buy has already jumped to pre-orders for the device, and it's sure to get some attention.

ASUS PadFone ‘Expand Your World’ advertisement hits YouTube
Sometimes it's hard to realize a good idea until you've seen it in action. And to be honest, I was a bit skeptical of the 'two devices, one data plan' idea for some time. But the ASUS PadFone seems flawless; well, it does in their advertisement so I guess there's some bias there. Either way, be sure to check out 1:38 in the video clip when they show how the included stylus doubles as a bluetooth headset!

We hope you all had a great Thursday, and here's a few of today's top stories. The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer was updated to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) over in Taiwan, so we had figured it would make its way over to the US soon. We're sure of that now, as ASUS recently confirmed it should hit the states tomorrow.

This morning, word got out that Fujitsu is planning a 13.1MP phone for MWC. Other rumored specs include a rather large 4.6” display and an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. It is projected to run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), even though three capacitive buttons are present on the only thumbnail we have of the rumored device.

Earlier today, press photos of the Huawei Ascend D1 Q leaked. We should see more of this device at MWC, which is quickly approaching. We've written up an article to sum up what we should expect to see from Mobile World Congress this year, but hopefully we'll run into a few surprises as well. While we had hoped CES would be a bit more innovative than it turned out to be, this is the tech world's chance to redeem themselves - so get ready. Android 5.0 (Jelly Bean) has been in the news a bit more lately, and rightfully should be considering its estimated Q2 release. It turns out we could see a WebTop style desktop mode integrated as an optional interface. This will most likely suit devices like the Transformer Prime that take advantage of keyboard attachments. Chrome for Android is set to improve by "leaps and bounds" very soon says Chrome's Senior VP Sundar Pichai. As if the new browser, which is still in Beta, wasn't speedy enough. There still isn't a definite area Pichal suggests will be improved, but rather that users should expect an even better experience. Another application set for an update soon, rather a launch, is Temple Run. The highly anticipated game has let its users know the official announcement will take place on their Facebook page. Any MIUI fans out there? You'll be glad to know it's packed into a retail tablet in Japan. Named Eden Tab, it sports a 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16 GB of onboard storage. It packs a 1280x800 pixel resolution into a 7" display, so you'll notice extra sharp images. It will only run at $370, and should start shipping this weekend. MIUI has been successfully ported to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), so there's also a possibility it ships with that version.

Samsung Epic 4G Touch could be the first GSII receiving Android 4.0
Samsung Epic 4G Touch owners are probably on the edges of their seats right now. And sources say, it could be the first Galaxy S II to receive Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The Now Network has been punctual at delivering updates in the past, and over on their official forums resides some eye-squinting information detailing an Android 4.0.3 update is imminent. It unveils both the Touch's model number and software version. Therefore, we should definitely expect an update - hopefully sooner rather than later.
