Samsung adds to Galaxy line with new Kitkat budget phones

Samsung is looking to expand its line of Galaxy phones (does anyone actually know how many there are now?) with four new additions that will sit cleanly at the “budget phone” strata for the South Korean smartphone giant – the Galaxy Core II, Galaxy Ace 4, Galaxy Young 2, and the Galaxy Star 2. Allow us to briefly take you through the highlights of each.

Android L developer preview now rooted on Nexus 5 and 7

Well that was fast. The Android “L” test firmware – a developer preview for the Android version that was revealed at the Google I/O keynote and the one that we will all probably get the full version by later this year – was released for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 devices yesterday. And today, root access is delivered by the good folks at XDA (hooray!).

Android 4.4.4 now rolling out to Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, and Z Ultra

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, Z1, and Z Ultra users can now update their smartphone units to the latest and greatest version of Android Kitkat, as Sony has begun rolling out the 4.4.4 updates to these models. It was actually the Z1 Compact who got the update a day before the Z1 – last year’s flagship model – and the Z Ultra also were included in the list.

Sony Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Xperia Tablet Z getting Android 4.4 Kit Kat

Sony will be updating several Xperia smartphones and one Xperia tablet to Android 4.4 Kit Kat over the coming weeks. The smartphones include the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and the tablet is the Xperia Tablet Z. Sony has yet to release a firm timeline for the rollout, however there was mention of the update beginning today for "selected markets."
