Google Forcing Manufacturers to Hold Gingerbread Until May to Sell More Nexus S?

We've been handed a tip just now that might ruffle your feathers a bit if you're amongst the thousands of rabid Android fans waiting with your fingers dug into your knees for an update of your phone to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. A source familiar with the matter has told us that Google, our everloving king keeper of the Android, is forcing manufacturers to hold back the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread on ALL handset models until April or even May so that they can sell more Nexus S.

PlayStation Phone XPERIA Play Due at MWC, PSP 2 on January 27

Heck, they're both basically the same thing, right? Nah. It'd be interesting to compare the two directly though, especially since we basically now KNOW that both the Sony machine and the Android-based XPERIA Play are going to be released within weeks of eachother. Bloomberg reports with sources confirming the release schedule, and Bloomberg is usually right. Furthermore, both devices will be working on a more networked media and entertainment sort of system that's yet to be revealed by Sony.

Samsung Vibrant 4G Launching on Feb 23?

According to a screen grab seeming captured from... I dunno, out of thin air? T-Mobile News is showing the release date of the Samsung Vibrant 4G to be February 23, 2011. Furthermore it notes that a Samsung T259 "Sienna" will be released on February 9nd, and the Motorola Cliq 2 will be released tomorrow. Who's excited?! People are getting so excited about the Vibrant 4G that they're making up faked photographs of it just for fun.

Nexus S Update Available Now, Bringing in Bug Fixes and Map Update

Just under a week after its launch, it seems the Nexus S has been pushed an OTA update. XDA member, rocketragz, just noticed the update and it said it included bug fixes as well as a map update. The original thread over at XDA is all over the place. There have been reports of receiving it on the East and West coasts as well as being pegged as build# GRH78 - Android 2.3.1. GRH78 - Android 2.3.1:
  • 1.9Mb file stating Bug fixes and Maps fixes
  • Browser lag appears to be fixed
  • Blurry MMS fix [?]
  • Bug Fixes

The Samsung Nexus S will be launching this thursday, December 16th at Best Buy stores and Best Buy online. The retailer has now detailed how exactly the launch will be handled and what customers can expect in terms of availability and pricing.

Android 2.2 Update for HTC Legend Coming December 9th
