Sprint Kyocera Echo Hands-On

It's one of the oddest devices you're ever going to hold in your hands, and that's not just in the Android gene pool. This is the Kyocera Echo, the dual-screen Android smartphone announced by Sprint earlier this year with David Blaine the magician. Certainly a memorable event to say the least. This device is made to appeal to your need to have a device that absolutely noone else has, a device that would scare away the meek of heart, a device like you've never seen before! We've wrapped our fingers around its odd panels and buttons and the results are just as odd as the concept.

T-Mobile Sidekick 4G Hands-On

Here at CTIA 2011 we've been granted the opportunity to get a slightly early hands-on with the first Sidekick to be jam packed with Android goodness. This device comes in two color schemes, one of them with a black underside and white back, the other with a white underside and pink back. This phone, in my own personal opinion, marks a turning point for Android, one where devices running Google's mobile OS are aimed at the feminine instead of just the masculine brute in us all, that one who loves every color just so long as it's BLACK!

Kyocera Echo needs App Developers

Just looking at the sweet dual screen design of the Kyocera Echo, it's easy to see the potential. More real estate means more capability for apps. And being a dual, split screen can also mean more specific development that needs to be done on Android apps it will use. Kyocera knows it, so they're enacting a program to entice more app developers to create content for the dual screen platform. Developers will have access to the Echo Software Development Kit and other tools which will enable them to optimize their apps for the dual screen platform.

Samsung SCH-W899 Dual Screen gets FCC’d

Tear down images of the Samsung SCH-W899 Dual Screen clamshell handset have popped up and looking at the design, it's a rather interesting design choice. First the cool features, the "Sch" has two 3.3" Super AMOLED screens sitting in what looks like a back to back configuration. The primary screen is for palming the phone for smart computing. Then, when users want to make a phone call, they flip it up "old school" and the second screen comes to life. http://androidcommunity.com/wp-admin/tools.php

Droid 3 Photos leaked, shows redesigned keyboard

Photos have leaked of what is reported to be the new Motorola Droid 3 sporting a redesigned keyboard. The slide up QWERTY has five rows, rather than the smaller 4 row design featured in the Droid 2. The buttons look fairly large for typing and it's an impressive outlay considering the phone shown looks fairly thin. There also looks to be HDMI and microUSB ports as well.

HTC ThunderBolt Perm Rooted

So we had a little look over at the XDA Forums at the root of the ThunderBolt before it was released, and yes, that is always impressive. But it wasn't permanent! What we love to see is that permanence, the real test of weather the phone is really rooted or just wearing a Halloween mask. Well let me tell you what's happened essentially overnight - perm root. Indeedy yes, it was user jcase who let the world know that with the first step being a showing on the 16th, the 17th at nearly midnight the real test was accomplished.

OTA updates for Samsung Epic 4G, Transform and Galaxy Tab coming

A pretty strong indication of an over the air (OTA) update to the Samsung Epic 4G, Transform, and even the Galaxy Tab popped up on the interwebs today in the form of a screen shot from Sprint's website. The intended upgrades includes the Epic 4G moving up to Android 2.2.1 (Froyo) as well as some 2.2 yogurty goodness for the Samsung Transform. Even the Samsung Galaxy Tab joins the Epic 4G and Transform with a little nip and tuck courtesy of a Sprint ID update that will provide for a package of wallpapers, ringtones and apps to bring it up to where the current state of the art is for Sprint and Samsung.

NEC MEDIAS E-04C 7.7MM Android Phone [Hands-On in Japan] [EXCLUSIVE]

Our main homie Ewdi is up in his crib over in Japan [don't worry, he's completely safe], and he found one single store that had a working model (aka not just a dummy model) of the MEDIAS E-04C 7.7MM Android phone. That's one thin phone, I must say. Ewdi notes that this model is running Android 2.2.2 Froyo, and is not as snappy as he thought it would be - and trust me when I say Ewdi's had his hands on his fair share of smartphones. Our man in Japan with the goods!

T-Mobile Sidekick 4G Shown Off by Product Manager Joe Fernandez

What a cool guy, that Joe Fernandez, he's the product manager for the fabulous new T-Mobile Sidekick 4G made by Samsung. He's got not one, but two of the devices sitting right there on the desk inside T-Mobile's gigantic towers in Bellvue, Washington. He and his pals have made this lovely video to show off the message-centric device to the world in-hand. He notes first the 5-row QWERTY keyboard and how they've "brought back" some unique messaging features -- from the original line of Sidekicks, the ones without Android, of course.

Motorola Atrix headed to T-Mobile UK in June

This morning some news has came up that T-Mobile UK looks to be getting the Motorola Atrix. The date I'm hearing is starting in June, but no exact time frame has been given by T-Mobile. Hopefully they plan to release it before June because by then I expect there to be more than a few dual core phones to compete with it. Sooner the better T-Mobile.
