More goodies for all you people that have upgraded (stolen) Froyo, Mochi Media will be launching a Flash 10.1 based site that will offer a variety of games. If you have Android 2.2 and Flash 10.1 installed, you will soon have access to a new source of great games.

The site, m.mochigames.com will feature more than 25 games and will be available upon the release of Google’s next version of Android (“FroYo”) phones. The site features mobile-optimized versions of puzzle game Biomass, card game Magic Towers Solitaire and strategy game Wheekling, as well as other puzzle, strategy and shooter games

Flash 10.1 brings a whole new realm of exciting things in the world of Android. These games are one of those things that gives Android a leg up on a few other platforms, one of which my never reap the benefits of this type of experience (Apple). You love having Flash 10.1 on your device yet?

Google has issued an update for the unlocked version of the Android phone. The version is specifically made for developers.

Several bug fixes for issues that involve the alarm clock, device sleep, POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3) email, and email notification are among the updates. Added to this includes the ability to save MMS attachments and voice search. As for matters of accessibility to applications, Google will only block those applications, regardless of whether they are free or paid, that use Google’s copy protection. Different from the consumer version which allows users to copy applications which are sold exclusively through T-Mobile’s Network. With this however, Google is blocking access to all copy protected applications, even for copy protected applications on the open device.

Dan Morrill, Developer Advocate for Android says “many developers are concerned about the unauthorized redistribution of their applications, developer phones like the ADP1 allow for unrestricted access to the device’s contents, making it impossible to enforce copy protection. If you choose to add copy protection when you upload your application to the Android Market, then you won’t be able to test it on the ADP1′s Android market client.”

Here’s the latest official response from T-Mobile pertaining to the T-Mobile G1 pre-launch availability. If you didn’t pre-order the T-Mobile G1, you are now OFFICIALLY SOL.

Given the great anticipation and the heavy pre-sale demand for the T-Mobile G1 with Google, we nearly tripled the number of phones initially available for delivery on our Oct. 22 launch date, and have sold through them all. However, to accommodate additional T-Mobile customers who want to pre-order a device, they now have the opportunity to place a pre-order through Oct. 21, for delivery at a later date.

Also, people can still pre-register on the T-Mobile G1 Web site to be notified prior to launch where they can purchase the device beginning Oct. 22. Details are available on the T-Mobile G1 Web site, www.T-MobileG1.com.

UPDATE: T-Mobile customers who want to pre-order a device, they now have the opportunity to place a pre-order through Oct. 21, for delivery sometime in early November 10th time frame.

Thanks Kristen, T-Mobile Spokesperson

We had a little bit of time today to get an exclusive one on one time with the G1 for our Android Community members, at a special developers event held in Dallas. The company behind Google Application Challenge award winning app ShopSavvy, Big In Japan – were there, demonstrating the software in action on a G1.

The G1 phone was quick and responsive as when we played with it at the launch event last week. We were able to get hands on time with the full version of ShopSavvy. We scanned a barcode (for demonstration purposes, a Logitech webcam) and were able to compare prices online as well as at many stores in the area.

No word on when the application will be released, or if it will be a free application or one in which you must purchase. We can imagine it would be particularly useful for all the Christmas shopping coming up over the next few months. One particularly useful feature is price alert, allowing you to save products to a wish-list that updates you when the product is discounted into your pre-set price range. Check out the video interview we did with Big In Japan here.

Update: Pre-order is back up. Thanks A-Tron! We heard from our friends at T-Mobile today and here’s the official statement:

“The T-Mobile G1 microsite experienced a technical glitch this morning, and is now back up and running. Since Tuesday’s announcement, we’ve experienced heavy demand for the device. A small quantity of T-Mobile G1s are still available at this time for T-Mobile customers. Please visit http://www.T-MobileG1.com for details.” -thanks Kristen!

Note that there are only a small quantity of the T-Mobile G1s are available. That means if you want a G1, you better hurry because T-Mobile is running out!

With the overwhelming response to the announcement of the T-Mobile has run out of available devices for the G1 pre-order. Hundreds of people immediately jumped on T-Mobile’s site to pre-order their device. So many in fact that the site was down for several hours.

Very quickly users came forth reporting that customer service representatives were stating there was a very limited supply. Three days after pre-orders started it has been confirmed that there are no more devices available for a pre-order. There is no word on production levels, nor whether dealers will have any models on hand come the official release. Rumors of the white G1 experiencing paint chipping seem very possible with the lack of the white model for pre-order.

Those who have not yet pre-ordered their T-Mobile G1 may not be able to purchase the device from their local T-Mobile store if they are not within the 3Gcoverage area. It seems many dealers do not know any more than anyone else about the situation. I wonder if the G1 will be plagued with short supply.

YouTube is very clean and easy to navigate. The dark interface gives a really nice touch when reading through descriptions of videos and looking through thumbnails to find what you are looking for. Video loading times seemed to be the only drawback of this application – possibly due to the WiFi and 3G networks in the test area being overworked - but were quickly made up for with video resolution and easy controls.

There does not seem to be too much to rave about the settings menu other than the clear settings descriptions helping the user know what each setting category is about. The layout includes a symbol to the right of each option that quickly and easily informs the user as to wither a specific settings is on or not. The “about” page includes a lot of detailed information about your device and usage including Battery Status, Battery Level, Signal Strength, Network and Kernel Version to name just a few.

Similar to iTunes for the iPhone, Google is offering a vast library of songs for download while on the go thanks to a collaboration with Amazon. Users who currently use Amazon will find the interface familiar; the layout is very simple in comparison to iTunes. Song descriptions include the artist, album cover art, album, song name rating. Amazon even allows a brief preview of each song before you purchase.

The G1 offers a lot of location based services including the ability to see where your friends are. Similar to Buddy Beacon the G1 can help you locate others as well as broadcast your location, however it is not limited to those who are using a specific application. It is the same with all Android phones.

The G1 includes GPS and AGPS. It does not currently support walking directions, but that feature is “very forthcoming”. Google has redefined navigation on handsets with the drag and drop directions feature as well as Street View. Being able to see an unfamiliar location before you get there is a dramatic improvement on the way we use our phones to navigate the streets. Street View also allows you to look down the street, move down the street and also zoom in and out with amazing clarity.

Perhaps the most amazing feature of Street View if the compass feature that allows you to look around the street view in full 360 degrees by simply turning your body. This is truly something that one must experience for themselves to fully get the realization of how advanced this is. It is almost like looking through a spyglass.

All the way up until the official announcement of the T-Mobile G1 phone, we constantly heard about T-Mobile’s status as a founding member of the Open Handset Alliance and how Android was to be a truly open piece of software, allowing third-party developers to not only create applications for Android, but to actually change the software itself for improved functioning.

And while this all has been confirmed as of this morning we also learned that the G1 would be locked to T-Mobile. And while it’s pretty standard these days for phones to be locked to specific carriers, it still raises some questions. For instance, can you truly have an “open” piece of software if it is officially restricted to just one carrier?

There’s already a thread going about the subject in our Forums and many seem to think there will be an iPhone-style rush to unlock the G1 in the coming days and weeks. Does this mean there will be a G1 Dev Team, too?

And while a mad dash to unlock the G1 still remains to be seen, the fact that we even have to have this conversation is a tad bit unsettling. After all, isn’t the entire point of an Open Handset Alliance to maintain an open attitude and allow for the free exchange of ideas for the betterment of the final product? That’s what I took it to mean, anyway.

What do you think? If the G1 is locked to T-Mobile can Android be truly allowed to grow to its fullest potential? Or am I just overreacting?

Vincent is at the event and ready to stream everything straight to our liveblog. Be sure to keep watch for the official announcement and your opportunity to win a free G1.

Looks like the whole world is watching to hear details about the first Android to be released into the world. People from all over have eagerly been awaiting this announcement for many months. Many have taken a break from work or even called in sick just to be able to hear the news live. Will this phone be able to stand up to the iPhone?

This is a huge step for T-Mobile making them a larger competitor in todays mobile phone market. With all the recent news and hints about a pre-order it appears this device still will not be released for a few more weeks at the soonest. Will we see the brown G1 that we all have read about?

A forum user has tipped off Android Community on the G1 chipset. It appears the chipset used in the G1 will be made by Qualcomm, and is one of the company’s 7201 multi-core processors, a dual core to be precise. It is said to be more stable and energy efficient than most processors; however, unusually, the two cores are not the same.

The first core is a speciality core dedicated solely to phone functionality such as making phone calls.
The second core is a general purpose core intended for applications, in order to accommodate more application processing load. The end result should be less lag due to overloaded phone processors.

According to the tip, clock speed for both cores will be the same. Because of this, overclocking the G1 will not have much of an increase in performance. There are reportedly still some problems with the multi-core setup that, under specific situations, may cause the phone to crash; Qualcomm is apparently “working around the clock” to fix the drivers at the root of this.

After the news of the latest Android SDK release, Google came in for some criticism over a number of APIs the company removed and that, as a result, would not be present in the eventual Android 1.0 platform. Headlines suggested that Android would have no Bluetooth support, for instance, and the whole OS was accused of not being ready for primetime. Now the Developers Blog have spoken up to explain two of the most prominent omissions – the advanced Bluetooth API and the GTalkService – and justify the reasons for their being (temporarily) left behind.

Despite the rumors, Android will support the usual array of Bluetooth headsets and dongles. You’ll be able to use it with your hands-free or tether it to your laptop (carrier T&Cs permitting). What won’t be there is the API that exposes Bluetooth functionality to developers:

“The reason is that we plain ran out of time. The Android Bluetooth API was pretty far along, but needs some clean-up before we can commit to it for the SDK. Keep in mind that putting it in the 1.0 SDK would have locked us into that API for years to come” Nick Pelly, Android engineer responsible for Bluetooth API

That means, initially, developers won’t be able to use Bluetooth for, say, short-range wireless gaming between Android handsets. It’s a disappointing omission, but the Android team are promising it’ll make an appearance in a future release.

Secondly, the GTalkService API, which would have presented a straightforward interface for the exchange of messages between Android devices. Rather than time shortages, it’s security that scuppered that particular API, both of personal details (communicating with other mobile users would then see them added to your Google Talk friends list, whereupon they could see your email address and other information) and of application security.

“Although we would have loved to ship this service, in the end, the Android team decided to pull the API instead of exposing users to risk and breaking compatibility with a future, more secure version of the feature. We think it’s obvious that this kind of functionality would be incredibly useful, and would open lots of new doors for developers. One of our top priorities after the first devices ship is to develop a device-to-device (and possibly device-to-server) RPC mechanism that is fast, reliable, and protective of developers and users alike” Dan Morrill, Developer Advocate, Android

Although on first glance it’s easy to criticise Google for snipping out features, if poorly executed APIs led to future security or privacy breaches then the frustration would be even greater.
