Square once again denies buyout is imminent

Square, the mobile payment solution finding favor with an increasingly large number of small and mid-size businesses, is reportedly up for grabs. Citing people “familiar with the matter”, the Wall Street Journal reports that Square is entertaining offers from Google and Apple. Square is flatly denying talks are taking place, despite evidence that suggests they are in trouble.  

Amazon snatches up Comixology

It might seem like something long over due but also something that might worry a few. Amazon has just acquired popular digital comics distributor Comixology to expand its dominion even further into the realm of digital comics.

Google purchases Green Throttle Games for undisclosed amount

Google has acquired Green Throttle Games, the company has confirmed. No details on a purchase price were given, and Google hasn’t yet said just why they purchased Green Throttle. Given the company’s history of hardware production, it livens up the rumors Google will release more hardware for the living room.

Beats Music acquires Topspin Media

Beats Music has acquired Topspin Media. Statements from both companies have already been shared on the respective company blogs, with Beats Music mentioning how this means they get a "team of talented people who have spent years working on building and fine-tuning the artist-to-fan connection." Naturally, this will only serve to further the Topspin integration already seen in the Beats Music service.

Facebook purchases WhatsApp for $19 billion

Facebook, in their continued desire for a messaging platform, has agreed to purchase WhatsApp. The selling price is a whopping $16 billion in cash and Facebook stock, plus $3 billion in Restricted Stock Awards, or RSA. A regulatory filing details all the subtleties, but for now — we’re going to sit back and marvel at that price.

Google acquires SlickLogin to help make the Internet safer

Google and its users are probably one of the favorite targets of miscreants. While Google is always trying to secure things from its end, it can only do so much to help users hold their end of the line. Its latest assimilation of startup SlickLogin might just help it do that, though it remains to be seen how much it will catch on.
