Acer releases app to manually update A500 tablets to ICS
Now here's what we like to see: a manufacturer that's proactive in getting their customers upgraded to the latest software. Acer might have been somewhat behind the curve when it came to granting Android 4.0 to their Iconia Tab A500 model, but now that it's out, they want to make sure those who want it right away can get it as quickly as possible. Their new ICONIA TAB update Enhancement app will help users to do just that.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 ICS update rolling out today
Just like the smaller sibling in the A100 it appears that Acer has flipped the switch and is rolling out the update to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich for their Tegra 2 powered Iconia Tab A500 too. The update was originally stated to start on Friday, April 27th but it apparently is available now and rolling out to users in the US and Canada.

Android Community Weekly: April 22nd, 2012
Another week of Android happenings is behind us, but there's one thing we're still talking about 'round these parts: Android Community's brand-new look! Hopefully you like it as much as we do - we've put a lot of work into making the site more readable and usable. But enough about us, let's get to all the news you need to catch up on if you've spent the last week under a rock.

Well look at that - on the same day that Acer's nailed down a date for updating its older tablets to Ice Cream Sandwich, it's also started selling the new Iconia Tab A510. This revision of the A500 model includes a Tegra 3 quad-core processor and ships with Android 4.0. And if you care about such things, it's also the "Olympic Edition", which means you get a snazzy five-ring logo on the back. The Iconia Tab A510 is shipping now from Acer's online store for $449, and should show up at retailers soon.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 and A100 ICS update coming April 27th
Good news for Acer owners: your Android 4.0 updates are finally starting to trickle out. Early adopters who bought the Iconia Tab A500 when it was one of the only Honeycomb tablets available will feel vindicated that they'll be getting Ice Cream Sandwich very soon. Both the A500 and the smaller A100 will be seeing updates on April 27th (next Friday) in the United States. Canadians get the update on May 3rd (all the better to watch our Galaxy S III liveblog!) and those in Latin America will get updates for the A100 on April 25th and for the A500 on April 27th.

Android Community Weekly: March 25th, 2012
With the Ides of March fully behind us, the folks at Android Community are looking forward to summer... and all the drool-worthy hardware it brings. The last week saw quite a bit of activity in that space, with new hardware being announced and leaked steadily. Of course there's plenty of movement on the software front as well, with more and more devices getting upgraded (or at lease getting the promise of an upgrade) and the first hints of Android 4.0.5, the latest version of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Acer Iconia Tab A510 packs Tegra 3 and ICS in $450 slate
Acer has outed its first quadcore Ice Cream Sandwich tablet, the Acer Iconia Tab A510, a 10.1-inch slate running Android 4.0 on NVIDIA's Tegra 3 chipset. The A510 has a 1280 x 800 10-point touchscreen with 85-degree viewing angles, a microHDMI port, micro USB 2.0 port and microSD card reader. Inside there's 32GB of storage and 1GB of RAM, along with WiFI a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. A front camera runs at 1-megapixel and is fixed focus, while the 5-megapixel rear camera supports autofocus and can simultaneously snap stills while recording HD video. Polaris Office 3.5 along with various other apps are preloaded, together with Acer's own clear.fi DLNA streaming system and the Acer Ring UI. The chassis is 10.2(w) x 6.9(d) x 0.43(h) inches and weighs a little over 24 oz, and bears both Acer and Olympics logos as it's apparently an "Olympic Games Tablet Edition." The Acer Iconia Tab A510 is up for pre-sale today, priced at $449.99, and available in black or silver. A matching case with integrated stand is priced at $39.99. [gallery]

Acer Iconia Tab A510 gets an Olympic edition
It's that time of the quadannual cycle again. With the 2012 Summer Olympics in London getting closer and closer, the endorsements and marketing are going to start ramping up any day now. Acer seems to be getting an early start: they've unveiled the Iconia Tab A510 Olympic Edition at CeBIT in Germany. There's nothing extraordinary about the Android tablet: it's got the same specs and internals as the as-yet unreleased standard version, with a spiffy Olympic rings logo and a silver-on-black color scheme.

Acer announces Liquid Glow with Ice Cream Sandwich
LG, NEC, HTC, and a host of other alphabetically rich manufacturers have already spilled the beans on their Mobile World Congress 2012 wares, and Acer has no intention of being left behind. Today they've announced the Liquid Glow, which we are assured is a smartphone (as opposed to a shampoo or a car wax). This decidedly mid-range phone has all the basic goodies crammed into a 3.7-inch form factor, with the notable addition of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at launch.

Android 4.0 ICS leaks for Acer Iconia Tab A500 and A100
Good news all you Acer tablet lovers. When the A200 started getting Android 4.0 ICS a few weeks back, then we later heard the older more popular A500 and A100 wouldn't get updated until late April I'm sure a few of you were upset. Good news today comes in the form of the official Android 4.0 ICS builds for both tablets being leaked over on XDA.
