Apple loses in effort to overturn Galaxy Nexus sales ban
We heard a bit about the fight regarding the Galaxy Nexus sales back in January. Of course, that was just one point in the fight between Apple and Samsung. And if you remember back to last October, Samsung had claimed a small victory when the US Court of Appeals overturned the preliminary injunction that banned Galaxy Nexus sales. Anyway, as one may have guessed, Apple followed that decision with a request to reconsider.

Apple Store gains trademark while Google remains in the cloud
While Google seems intent on remaining in the cloud in terms of device sales, one thing has recently been made clear -- should they decide to go the retail route with stores of their own, they should not have them looking like an Apple Store. The reasoning here, Apple has recently been granted an official US trademark (from the USPTO) for their retail stores.

Samsung’s infringement of Apple patents declared not willful
In its high-profile patent case against Apple, Samsung has taken quite a few hits. This week, however, Samsung is catching a rather large break, as Judge Lucy Koh has decided to accept the company's claims that it wasn't infringing willfully. This means the amount Samsung has been ordered to pay Apple probably won't increase much moving forward, which is likely something making Samsung's attorneys exhale a sigh of a relief today.

Samsung recommended more than Apple by UK retailers
Given the steep cost of a new smartphone, picking one that's perfect for you can be a pretty daunting task. We often turn to retailer employees when it comes time to pick a new handset, asking them for suggestions about which phone would be ideal for our lives. As it turns out, employees at some of the biggest phone retailers in the UK seem to suggest Samsung handsets over Apple's iPhone line more often.

Android, Apple took more than 90% market share in Q4 2012
Q4 2012 was another bang up quarter for the likes of Android and Apple, with the two taking 92% of the smartphone shipments made worldwide during the quarter for themselves. That doesn't leave much space for the other mobiles operating systems of the world, a trend that has been continuing for quite some time. These new numbers come from Strategy Analytics, which also says that smartphone sales were up year-over-year.

Apple posts Q1 2013 financial results: Record $54.5 billion in revenue
The past few days we've been seeing financial and earnings reports from multiple big companies and today was Apple's turn. We saw Google's Q4 results yesterday breaking $14.4 billion in revenue, but today's results from Apple are huge. It's technically their Q4 2012 calender year but is listed as Q1 financials. The fruit company racked in over $13 billion in pure profit too.

While we've all seen the numbers - which we'll mention again below - now that 2013 is in full stride lets look forward on how 2013 will come into its own.

Temple Run 2 Android release set for record-breaking response
This past week we've seen just about as much interest in one game as we've seen in every single other app on the market, and it isn't even out yet: Temple Run 2. The original Temple Run was one of the most hotly anticipated games for Android back when it launched many moons after the iOS iteration, and here with the Apple-first release of Temple Run 2, history seems very much to be repeating itself - and not just figuratively.

Cook, Schmidt, and Otellini forced to testify on employee poaching agreement
Fridays are normally slow news days, but not this one. Today we're hearing a whopper of a story coming out of All Things D, as Judge Lucy Koh (the very same Judge that oversaw the case between Apple and Samsung) is ordering Apple CEO Tim Cook, Intel CEO Paul Otellini, and Google Chairman Eric Schmidt to give testimonies related to the companies' non-poaching agreement. Allegedly, Apple, Intel, and Google all entered into an agreement that restricted each company from recruiting the others' employees.
