Many users ran out and bought the LG G2x when it first launched over on T-Mobile. It was what we all thought to be a vanilla Android device aka Google experience device packing a dual-core chip and it would rock. Don’t get me wrong the phone is great but the software had all sorts of LG tweaks and overall it had more than a few issues. Last we heard the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread and bug fixes was coming by summer and we haven’t heard anything else regarding the matter.

While it’s still summer we all thought it would be here by now especially since a Gingerbread build was leaked months ago. All we have heard this summer has been about quality control issues and demand shortages, and T-Mobile even issued internal documents to staff regarding some of said issues.

The picture above is from the official LG forums and a moderator giving a little indication of when it might actually come. Stating “…I’d be really surprised if it was more than a month out” regarding a comment posted on the forum. So does this mean we will be seeing the OTA to Gingerbread in July? I sure hope so because users are starting to get the run around from T-Mobile regarding exchanges from what we are hearing. Hopefully they get the 2.3 update out and fix all these issues so everyone can enjoy the dual-core goodness inside the G2x.

  1. I am definitely glad I returned my G2x before my 14 day window was up- have the Sensation now, and its a little bit better IMO- more rounded corners are definitely more comfortable.  The Sense 3.0 I could do without- dont like their method of handling the call log & contacts..  mobile movies some other stuff I really like though- the VK is sweet and their cursor method of navigating selected text is cool.

But the best thing is lack of bugs, and great audio coming out of the headphone jack- loud and punchy, unlike the G2x was..

  2. I returned a G2x and got a Sensation as well. I like the way movies will play and fit right on the screen without bars.

My G2x used to do all kinds of weird things like not displaying a thumbnail for videos you took with the camera, random reboots, hangups, etc.  Hard to beleive they still havent pushed out any fixes for that thing yet.

  3. With the stock software i hated my G2x, 4 hrs battery, random reboots, freezing, etc…. But thanks to Cyanogenmod7 my phone is a dual core beast! No bugs and everything working except a2dp, so i tell LG and TMO to kiss my a$$ i dont need there update, and just for the record I’d never buy another LG phone based on the support for this one, although im extremely happy of the performance now, no thanks to them! android 2.3.4, oc @ 1.2 Ghz, 14+ hours batt life, 1080p vid recording, Netflix, Sound Manager,
