We had a little bit of time today to get an exclusive one on one time with the G1 for our Android Community members, at a special developers event held in Dallas. The company behind Google Application Challenge award winning app ShopSavvy, Big In Japan – were there, demonstrating the software in action on a G1.

The G1 phone was quick and responsive as when we played with it at the launch event last week. We were able to get hands on time with the full version of ShopSavvy. We scanned a barcode (for demonstration purposes, a Logitech webcam) and were able to compare prices online as well as at many stores in the area.

No word on when the application will be released, or if it will be a free application or one in which you must purchase. We can imagine it would be particularly useful for all the Christmas shopping coming up over the next few months.  One particularly useful feature is price alert, allowing you to save products to a wish-list that updates you when the product is discounted into your pre-set price range. Check out the video interview we did with Big In Japan here.

  1. watchin now =]
  2. We have backlit keyboards!

    SCORE!

Overall, it looks like the application is simply amazing and the whole event was a lot of fun. Thanks guys!

Btw, the phone that was seen in the pictures was a Brown one for anyone who was curious.

How 'brown' is it in real life? I've read reports that it was a deep, zune-ish color, but with you guys answering it i'll have my thoughts confirmed
  3. Thanks for the pics and video. Looks great! Fun to hear from these guys who are developing apps - to get their perspective on the OS and its potential. PS I want that t-shirt!
  4. Thank god the keys light up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Thank You much!!!!!!!! Awesome pictures I keep staring at beautiful colors and screen ... I agree Vincent brown G1 seems to be very nice and good enough to compete with black/white G1

I dunno if I am the only one who noticed but White G1 is also two-tone colored - shaded bottom (keyboard) and top is white...

However all three are incredibly nice
  6. this just further ends any "ugly talk"
  7. Oh man, i honestly been trying to stay away from this kind of info/topics bc the wait will drive me nuts. But MAN, i really cant wait!!!!!!!!! Thanx for your hard work guys!
  8. They misspelled the word "prices" in the last pic, it's spelled 'prces'

I hope it gets to them before they release this to the public. This is the pic I'm talking about: http://androidcommunity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/t-mobile_g1_shopsavvy_1.jpg

Vincent maybe you can alert them some how.
  9. Yes!!! I am sooooo glad I ordered the brown one for me. (My husband gets the black one).
  10. This is just adding to my impatience to get this phone in my hands! Why is it taking October 22nd so long to get here???!!!
  11. another app on the list to download when my G1 arrives in the mailbox
  12. Are most of you all paying the members but no discount price of 299? or is everyone mostly due for an upgrade and payin 179.99
  13. An Award for what? I downloaded this App. and tried to scan some Bread, Tide, etc. and though it picked all of them up with an Error Message saying "I don't know the Freaking price!" It would not work at All! I'll give it a 0 out of 10! Its a waste of time! The GPS is Great as well as ISafe.
