In the immortal words of a great (if animated) American, Home Simpson, D’oh. The Spotify application has reportedly gone back to invite only status.

The app only recently hit the Android market, and if you didn’t grab it whiel you could you may be too late. The app has reportedly gone back to invite only status because the company couldn’t handle the glut of new registrations.

This is not such a surprise, Spotify had said before that if too many people signed up it would go back to invite only. If you really want Spotify, you can still sign up for a premium account only the free ones are via invites only. The service currently has about a million users.

  1. Wait! - what did I just miss out on...

Oops! This link appears to be broken.
  2. I have a small number of Spotify invites (which will only work in Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK, France and Spain, not the US) if anybody needs one. Please @ me on twitter: http://twitter.com/c_davies if you're interested; first-come, first-serve.

Sorry, Spotify isn't in the US yet - you guys get Pandora, though, which we don't

  5. This is true, so on that note..

    I'm gone, lol
  6. This is slightly wrong in that the Free PC client of Spotify has gone back to invite only. The Premium account, which is needed for the Android app, is still openly available for the same price.
  7. As Abaddon says, the title of this story is a bit misleading: only the free version is back to invite-only: anyone in the UK (or indeed any of the other supported countries) can sign up right now for premium and instantly get access to 4.4 million tracks on their Android.
