Despite what Sony says, it seems that the Xperia Z2 will be heading for Verizon. That is, if you give this leaked photo any credence, considering it seems addressed to the Korean market.

This photo doesn’t really advertise anything we don’t know. In particular, it tries to play on the Xperia Z2’s waterproof qualities and its IP 58 rating. If it can survive being submerged under water at a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, then it can probably survive dancing in the rain.

But if you squint hard enough, you will see that the Xperia Z2 used in this ad bears the distinctive Verizon checkmark, along with what reads out as “Verizon 4G”. It is a rather strange and almost dubious setup, especially since Sony officially says that the Xperia Z2 will only come in an unlocked version available only via their online stores.

Whichever the case may be, we will be finding out the truth soon enough. Sony has made it known that the Xperia Z2 will be launched this summer, though it has not given an exact date or even month just yet.

  1. I wanted to be excited about the Z2. I own a Z1s and am happy with it. The fail that Sony has passed onto a T-Mobile only branded phone is that i’ll be eternally stuck with 4.3. I would love to be wrong about that but I have learned my lesson. My Sony Z1s is dramatically superior to my Samsung S4 I traded it in for. Which makes me sad but happy to have a better product. It’s a catch 22. Even on T-Mobile’s weak network the antennae on my Z1s is great. Such is life. I was strongly considering a Z2 Jump! but that doesn’t look likely with your post Juan.
