On the heels of a recent bout of Android 4.3 updates for Sony‘s Xperia lines, the WiFi-only version of its 10-inch tablet, the Xperia Tablet Z, is finally seeing its share of attention. The update comes exactly a week after the company announced the update on its official blog.

Considering Android 4.4 has been out for a few months now, an Android 4.3 update almost sounds like old news. But we’ll definitely take any update over no update at all. Naturally, the newer Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra were the first to be graced by the update. Last week, however, Sony gave a bit of hope to owners of slightly older Xperia devices, including the Xperia Tablet Z, by announcing the rollout of the update for them as well. Unfortunately, the initial release of the Android 4.3 update was available only for the LTE version of the 10.1-inch device. Sony has seemingly rectified that situation and the Android 4.3 update for the WiFi variant is now going out to users.

Aside from the Android version bump, which brings new features like SELinux and restricted profiles, Sony has also injected a few of its own custom changes as well. The launcher has been replaced by one that is similar to the Xperia Z1 smartphone flagship. There is also the addition of the Sony Smart Social Camera as well as a new version of the STAMINA mode for the battery. Unfortunately, not all changes are seemingly good, as Sony has removed an app shortcut that some users might have found quite convenient.

As always, updates of this nature might take some time to hit all users depending on the region or carrier. Owners of the Xperia Tablet Z should also note that the update cannot be downloaded over the air (OTA) and can only be accessed via the Sony PC Companion or Update Service.
