Sony offered some details on the global release of the Xperia Tablet Z a short while back. Basically, Sony had said the tablet would soon be coming available for purchase. Those in the US have had pre-orders available for a while now and it looked like things were going to remain the same in terms of a shipping date. As of today however, that shipping date has slipped a bit.

On the bright side, the delay is not all that long. The new shipping date is showing as May 29th, which is up from May 24th. All in all, this is just a few extra days wait. Those in the US that happen to have been looking towards other retailers may be seeing something different though. Amazon is showing the tablet as being “out of stock” and B&H has the availability date showing as June 4th.

The other retailer that we have seen listing the tablet is Newegg, who currently mirrors the Sony page with an estimated shipping date of May 29th. Otherwise, aside from the new shipping date, the pricing has remained the same. As a recap, the 16GB Xperia Tablet Z is priced at $499.99 and the 32GB model is priced at $599.99. The 16GB model is available in black and the 32GB model is available in black or white.

Aside from the internal storage and exterior colors, the Xperia Tablet Z sports a 10.1-inch Full HD Reality display and is touted as the world’s thinnest tablet. More specifically, the world’s thinnest 10-inch tablet with a thinness of 0.27-inches. Other specs include a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, NFC, HDMI, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Sony has also added the Xperia Tablet Z to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and while the results have yet to be seen, we are hoping to see some developer attention and some interesting things coming as a result. With that, anyone in the US disappointed by the slip in shipping dates, or have you already looked past the Xperia Tablet Z?

  1. I was very interested in purchasing one upon release, but the 32GB internal coupled with only 64GB MicroSD capability falls short of my wanting 128GB total capability. Why is Sony so damn conservative in today’s world when today’s world demands risk taking? Oh well, Sony’s loss, not mine.

    • I don’t know about out of touch. Most manufacturers only offer 16GB, and some don’t even give you a micro-SD. Getting 32GB and a 64GB micro-SD option is better than many many options available.

      • A 64/64GB would have meant sold for me, as stated. Apple has already released their 128GB tablets, and it’s a shame Sony is “always” conservative. Depending on how long one has been using tablets, you quickly burn through 64GB and most users I know want a 128GB capacity tablet. I’m done purchasing Apple tablets so my next tablet will either be Android or Windows and it will have at least 128GB storage. Sony missed the boat as have others who do not offer 128GB storage.

  2. I have been waiting so LONG for this to be released. Can’t wait any longer for the z to be shipped, but I suppose I have to wait. 🙁
