The Android 6.0 Marshmallow may be ready for public release but still a lot of Android devices have yet to receive Android 5.0 or Android 5.1. Most Lollipop-powered phones easily receive the 5.1 version and we’re expecting the list would be longer. Two older Sony devices, the Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua, both less than two years old, are finally receiving Android 5.1 Lollipop.

As promised a few weeks ago, the software update for the pair is almost ready. Sony will do the roll out slowly but will still depend on the operator or the market. With the Android 5.1 Lollipop software update, the Xperia M2 Aqua and Xperia M2 have obvious changes. Interface will have a fresh look and feel, as made possible by Material Design, Google’s latest design guidelines. There will also be more options for customizations on alerts, silent modes, and volume. The update will also bring a new LinkedIn integration so you can easily sync information in your Calendar.

And since smartwatches are in, Android 5.1 Lollipop will bring SmartWear integration. This one now supports your Sony SmartWatch 3, turning it into a remote shutter button so you can take easily take a selfie.

There’s no mention if this update brings the Stagefright security patch just like when the Android 5.1 was recently made available for the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, and and the Xperia Z1 Compact. I don’t see any reason why Sony won’t bring said fix for the vulnerability. We’ll find out once the OTA update arrives.
