Sony has announced their Xperia Z2, and fans of the predecessor will be pleased. In just about every way, the Xperia Z2 builds on Sony’s smartphone momentum. The best part for the Z1, the 20.7MP camera, stays put — which should make everyone happy. Even though it’s sticking around, the camera is also improved.

The Xperia Z2 will get a 5.2-inch screen, and adhere to Sony’s TRULUMINOUS branding. A 2.3GHZz, quad-core Snapdragon 801, Adreno 330 GPU, and LTE will shoulder the load, while an impressive 3GB RAM will keep us comfortably humming along. A 3200mAh battery powers the device, but it’s going to need it — there are a lt of tweaks here.

The already impressive camera can capture in 4K, with Sony’s new Timeshift (slow motion) video being one of the many new features Sony is adding in. There will also be digital noise canceling on the device, making the Xperiea Z2 the first smartphone to ever offer such functionality. A neat background de-focus and Vine mode really hammer home that this one is camera first, phone second.

Still waterproof, still slim and sleek, and still a great camera. The Xperia Z2 promises to be a powerhouse device for those reasons alone. Mix in the hardware specs and you have one monster of an Android handheld. Just the beginning of MWC, and we’ve already got a big fig on the hook. Keep coming back for all your MWC 2014 news and hands-on!
