Holiday season is coming fast and with it comes the season for sales and giveaways. Sony is starting the race early and will be offering two free games every week, not for the brand new PlayStation 4, but for PlayStation Mobile devices such as the PlayStation Vita and compatible Android smartphones and tablets.

First in line is Passing Time, a 2D football, or soccer for the US, game with an art style that calls back to the 8-bit glory days of old. Do not expect fast-paced action you’d see on most football games but that doesn’t make the game any less fun or engaging. The game prides itself for being usable with only one finger, which is a great feature for touchscreens. There is also a bit of humor involved as you watch players move on their own and sometimes create funny scenarios, like burning other players as a fast ball passes them by. Here’s a video of Passing Time that explain the game’s various features.

The other free game this week might sound a bit familiar to some of you. The still unpronounceable Rymdkapsel is described as a meditative strategy game. It is all about building your dream space station. With roots in RTS games, you can expect that Rymdkapsel won’t all be about building, though. You will also have enemies that will come and try to shatter your dreams. Of course, you won’t be alone and will have minions to do your bidding. At the moment, the game is also available in the Humble Mobile Bundle 3. Though not free, this version will at least work on almost any Android device.

And that is actually the catch in Sony’s free offering. While one can freely download the PlayStation Mobile app from Sony’s website, it only works on a limited number of Android models, such as Sony’s own Xperia devices, some of Sharp‘s AQUOS phones, and a few of HTC‘s smartphones, including the HTC One. This promo will run from November 27 to December 18 and will resume from January 8 to January 22.
