Sony has released a new flash tool for its Xperia devices. This tool will only work for Xperia devices with an unlocked boot loader. The purpose of the tool is to take devices that have a custom firmware installed and moving it back to official Sony software. Sony is calling this new software a beta, so that means it’s not 100% finished.

Sony has posted a list of devices that can use the flash tool, and the list is rather small, to say the least. The phones included are Xperia S, Xperia arc, Xperia arc S. As I said before, this is just a beta, so Sony is only testing it out on a small list of devices. Each device has its own flash button that needs to be held in order to perform the firmware flash.

Sony also included a step-by-step process for using the program. The process is fairly easy, and the only thing that varies between devices is which button needs to be held down after you turn the phone off. In all, Sony has seven steps listed, and the whole process should be relatively painless. The video below breaks the process down.

Sony has posted a giant list of all the regions where the program can be used to flash a device back to factory software. The list is massive, and seems to include nearly every country where Android devices are available. The only countries not able to use the program are China, North Korea, Iran, Burma, Cuba, Sudan and Syria. If you own one of the supported devices and want to ditch your custom ROM, Sony is making the process a little easier.
