Sony is bringing a new Android phone to market in the US, and it’s available unlocked, without the need to sign a contract with a carrier. The Xperia advance is available now from many online retailers such as Newegg. It retails for $299, which is a pretty awesome price for an unlocked device.

The device is available in three colors choices; warm yellow, pure white, and tactile black. Sony designed this phone to be durable. It is water resistant in depths between zero to 39 inches for up to 30 minutes. It also comes with scratch-resistant mineral glass, so the phone should be able to withstand some of life’s little accidents without breaking or scratching.

As far as specs go, the phone is looking pretty solid. It comes with a 3.5-inch screen that supports a 480 X 320 resolution. It comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread installed, but it is upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0. It has a 1GHz dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM. It also comes with 8GB of internal memory and a 5MP camera. While not top of the line by any means, when you consider the price and the fact that it is unlocked, it’s not a bad deal at all.

The device supports UMTS HSPA 850, 1900, 2100 bands. It also works with GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900. Make sure your carrier of choice supports these bands before you run out and purchase the phone. If you’ve been waiting for a durable Android device with no contract, this could be the phone for you.
