Sega had announced some upcoming Android game releases back in late-October and it looks like the first title has arrived in the Play Store. The game is Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which should be a good option for those who are fans of classic gaming. In fact, Sega is touting this one as being a re-mastered version of “one of the greatest adventures of all time.”

This particular game was originally released on the Sega Genesis back on 1992. Since then we have seen it arrive for quite a few other consoles, including the Wii as part of the virtual console. In this case, Sega has said the re-mastering was done specifically for mobile and hence, this Android release. History aside, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is currently sitting in the Play Store priced at $2.99 and with some new content.

This one has been released as version 3.0.1 and with support for devices running Android 2.3 and later. As for the new content, that includes the Boss Attack mode and the Hidden Palace Zone.

  • An all new ‘Boss Attack mode’ challenges the player to defeat all of the game’s devious bosses in one run. Additionally choose to play the game as Knuckles in addition to Sonic and Tails.
  • For the first time ever explore the mysterious Hidden Palace Zone.  These lost levels feature undiscovered enemies, new hazards and a climatic showdown with Dr. Eggman.

Otherwise, aside from these new additions, the game maintains the ability to race Sonic and Tails at high speed through the Casino Night and Chemical Plant. You will be aiming to destroy Dr. Eggman and also chasing the high score in the half-pipe special stage.

Simply put, Sega has released Sonic The Hedgehog 2 with the original story and gameplay and even added something new for those looking to experience a bit more Sonic fun.
