Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Gear smartwatch in Berlin last week. At the time we learned the specs of the watch and a bit about the availability. In fact, we have already begun to see the watch show up for pre-order in the US market. Since that point we have also seen details about how the watch had 12 apps ready for launch with more than 70 others in the works. Well, it looks like Snapchat will be one of those apps.

Except the Galaxy Gear version of Snapchat will have a slightly different name. The app will be called Snapchat Micro, though the feature set is just what you would expect, hope and/or fear with an app that is designed for a camera-equipped smartwatch. Basically, that is to say you will be able to use the Snapchat Micro app to capture and share images. Specifically, you will be able to capture, set the timer, preview and then share those images.

Users will also be able to add drawings or captions to those images. Needless to say, those going that route will not be able to complete the entire process on the watch. Instead, those looking to caption the image will have to complete the process using the Galaxy Note 3. According to details provided, once you choose the option to annotate — the image will automatically open on the Note.

We suspect some will likely question the need for a Snapchat app on a smartwatch. Specifically, on a smartwatch with a 1.9 megapixel camera. But with that in mind, Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel spoke about how the “team is constantly looking at ways to reduce the time between our experience of a moment and our ability to share it.” Simply put, it looks like the Galaxy Gear is going to be one more method used to capture and share images. Thankfully though, Spiegel also went on to call this an experiment.
