SO we’ve got a whole heap of steaming trouble brewing up with the newest update to the HTC EVO 4G it seems, and it smells like cookies! This update, known by its street name as the HTC Evo Maintenance Release 4.22.651.2, was supposed to fix problems like the random recipient of text messages problem, email attachments not being displayed in the stock mail client problem, and the battery discharge issue – plus, it was supposed to update you to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, of course. What it’s done is, in fact, update you to Android 2.3, but with this update is coming a whole lot more than you may have bargained for.

Users in our forums and comments sections on posts are pouring in their hearts and stomping their feet at the fact that this update has brought with it famine and pestilence along with the lovely new Gingerbread keyboard, amongst other things. A few of the common problems are listed here right alongside some of the oddities – let us know if your problem is on this list or if you’ve got something new to add since you upgraded to the newest version of Android:

UPDATE: There appears to be a fix out for this problem now, an update for which you can get more information in the post linked here. Are all of our problems solved?

From True Vision South, LLC:

I have the HTC -EVO and I think the new gingerbread app sucks. I’m a contractor with DIRECTV and I use an app call DishPointer Pro, but for some reason ever since the upgrade to the gingerbread app the app doesn’t work anymore. I’ve called the developer for the DishPointer Pro app and I even called Sprint. Of course, Sprint would say it’s the developer of DishPointer Pro and DishPointer Pro blamed it on the developer of the app. Truth be told DishPointer Pro made a good point. “No compass app would work on the gigngerbread” and they sent me this link: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=356c127f660a489d&hl=en

You can try any compass app and see for your self. Download Google Sky Map and you will see that the gingerbread app is causing issues with all compass apps, therefore my DishPointer Pro app would no longer work until the developer of Gingerbread puts out a fix; in other words I’m out $20 on an app I’ve purchased thanks to the developer of Gingerbread.

From Redebord:

DO NOT DO THIS UPGRADE. SENSE UI constantly keeps locking up and forcing close. I keep getting a voicemail alert from sprint…which is funny since I use google voice for voicemail. This also breaks elements of tasker app. was informed by Sprint that there is no option to roll back and that I would be forced to reformat and flash my phone to android 2.2. This aspect sucks since those flash images are no longer available on the web. Research shows that this is a common problem for htc EVO on sprint.

From chris:

My speech to text doesn’t work. My native internet app doesn’t work. My neyflix doesn’t work. I’m pissed I thought this was suppose to be a better thing.. Wth?

From Pierre Kerbage:

After the update – holding the POWER button no longer allows you to mute the phone or put it on vibrate. Stinks !

From Sethwestmoreland:

Netflix doesn’t work anymore… not cool

From MP_ATL:

HTC Evo 4G on Sprint. Wireless N missing after Gingerbread update

Again keep on reporting to us or in the forums or over at the Google Mobile Help forum if you’ve got a trackable problem. If you have a problem and it only happens once, probably don’t report it. If you can prove you’ve got a problem and it’s happening all the time as a result of your update to Gingerbread, report in!

  1. If you update your os and your phone acts unstable then simply factory reset your device, for those that can’t handle their own google sync of contacts or at least export contacts to sd card and perform this reset themselves can go to a sprint store for help. I have no issues with the best device ever and the awesome update. Viva la evo!

  2. These stupid ass people need to wipe and get a fresh install of gingerbread. Why would you even post comments like this as if its a problem everyone us having. The first idiot needs a slap. Developer of gingerbread app. LOL fucking stupid.

  3. Cr-app. Slight performance boost outweighed by major, regressive, undercooked salmonella in the gingerbread. And ginger is supposed to make your tummy feel BETTER, not worse.

My evo now has these problems…

1 Won’t fast charge when off, because the new “off” is actually just SLEEP so it takes forever to recharge unless you pull off the case, pull off the cover and pull out the battery EACH TIME you want to turn it off for fast charge.

2 voice to text doesn’t work in gmail or messaging anymore (except for a few random times. Still works when you long press magnifying glass though (old UI) but thats not as
useful as dictating a long text or email.

3 already atrocious pandora app is now impossible to use AND keep sanity. Of course, pandora only blames google while google correctly says to uninstall pandora until revised sdk is available in 3 months.

4 swype has major shaking of what used to be straight lines resulting in wrong words.

5 new cursor jumps around erratically when you double tap to select or insert. Often, cursor cannot be made to appear at all. The magnified cursor window often shows no actual cursor or blocks text being selected making drag alignment blind.

  4. UPGRADE!!!
Here is a list of what was changed in the ‘upgrade’ for faithful EVO 4G users (including myself):

    *ScreenshotIt! no longer works
*Monopoly by Hasbro no longer works
*Speech to Text recognises voice 10% of the time and usually only one word out of 10-15 actually shows up.
*Slowed stock browser down about 30%
*Compass features no longer able to be accessed
*No new keyboard like was promised
*No change to promised revision of camera interface in Gingerbread 2.3
*No new Sense UI (in fact it FCs) alot and freezes (white screen with green HTC). Never used to with SAME configuration
*Netflix for EVO in Marketplace no longer works
*Less features on power hold than 2.2
    *EVO
DID get a new battery icon slightly in bar and a ‘done/go’ button in
SWYPE & a downloads app that seems to sensor the things you download
and breaks APKs that aren’t ‘approved’. Tested this a few times. Also
got a fast boot which works 90% of the time.
*EVO did NOT get a new look for the pull down bar (like Droid X got in THEIR Gingerbread)
*…did NOT get new icons (like Droid X got in THEIR Gingerbread)
*…did NOT get new dock etc on homescreen (like Droid X got in THEIR Gingerbread)
*…did NOT speed up system overall (like Droid X got in THEIR Gingerbread)
*and finally for all you rooters.. Broke the ability to root….period.

    Basically
we got a few upgrades that could have been popped into a small firmware
upgrade. And we got alot of downgrades to even worse than Froyo in alot
of ways. Thank you (Sprint? HTC? Android? IDK!) for ripping out all the
joy of Gingerbread that others got and baking in some poison… (so
that we’ll buy EVO 3D?..not likely). You didn’t even upgrade us to Sense
2.0.. That’s bad business and poor, greedy management. Get get get..
never give really in return. Once you’ve bought, make them feel happy..
til you’ve got enough standing elsewhere.. then let them go.

  5. Droid X now freezes up. Call quality and battery life now sucks. It changed the interface. Voice commands no suck. This update is hell. It’s lile have the Blackberry Storm 1.

  6. Well I just tested Google skymap and another compass app on my phone and they work fine with mine.  Only real thing I notice is Sense restarting after closing some apps but not a huge issue for me.

  7. A similar bucket of misery landed on the Droid X community after its GBread update. How about a little headline love for us? The more publicity, the better chance we’ll see a fix sooner than later. Appreciate your work, as always.

  9. I don’t get missed call notifications anymore, I get voice mail notifications even though I don’t have any voice mails left by the missed call. WTH!! Need fix promptly because I HAVE NO IDEA WHO’S TRYING TO CALL ME IF I DON”T GET TO MY PHONE RIGHT AWAY!

  11. Not happy with new update no sense ui 3.0 so basicaly sprint just updated so we can say we have gingerbread wheres the sense ui bull

  12. sorry yall that sucks but pleez dont blame gingerbread blame the douche who didnt test this for months on his own device.  we all know gingerbread been out for 6 months and released for at least 4 so umm nobody could get sense to work?  oh only if its the evo 3d or the flyer so lame

  13. Updated yesterday, serious problems. Text messages:  when I try to respond, the keyboard area is either black or retains the remnants of the displayed message, so I can’t type (if I do tap randomly, letters appear, so the keyboard is virtually there, just invisible). Swype: When I double-tap a word to bring up correction options, it now brings up an iPhone-like copy/paste menu with text selection active; no pop-up corrective word options anymore. Insane that this was released.

  14. Maybe HTC hasn’t gotten this whole upgrade-older-phones-to-Gingerbread thingy pinned down. Heh. Imagine that. Desire/Bravo/G7 not getting Gingerbread may be a blessing in disguise after all.

  15. Maybe HTC hasn’t gotten this whole upgrade-older-phones-to-Gingerbread thingy pinned down. Heh. Imagine that. Desire/Bravo/G7 not getting Gingerbread may be a blessing in disguise after all.

  16. Everything is screwed up! My HTC sense, Lost all scenes. Everytime I hit back it reloads home screen. Applications disappear, turns on 4g antenna randomly. Can’t hang up from phone calls sometimes. If I could go back to 2.2 I would. Had no issues then. The only benifit I’ve noticed is my battery life has lasted a long time. I have extended battery and so far its lasted all day even with me using the phone a lot. And lastly, my screen brightness is always Maxed out. I turn it down and it goes up by its self!

  17. Root your phone and use a custom ROM based off of the update. I run one and it is great, no probs at all, just the good aspects of gingerbread and the new Sense.

    • Gingerbread can’t be rooted as of yet, we are stuck with the OTA until Gingerbread can be rooted. It sucks!!!

    • Gingerbread can’t be rooted as of yet, we are stuck with the OTA until Gingerbread can be rooted. It sucks!!!

  18. 2.3 Sucks. Mine wont play 1/2 of my music files. Also have the apps have to be forced closed but on the good side my battery lost longer. I just called HTC and spoke with a support lady. She stated everything i stated was is a known issue and Sprint and HTC have paired up and there is an update going to be pushed over the air with in the next 24-48 hours!!!! She stated most of the issues should be fixed!!

  19. Gingerbread affected the wave file on my evo. My text messaging ring stopped working. After multiple reboots and calls to sprint, I was told my only option was a system reset. Had to spend an entire evening getting my phone back to where I had it. It still has changes that weren’t there before. Now what? Am I supposed to reinstall gingerbread, and maybe have to reset again, or do I just stay with the outdated os? Very unhappy.

  20. So far, the list that I have compiled below is what I’ve been seeing in forums and most of these issues I have on my own phone as well. Both Sprint and HTC have told me there is no roll back and I am fuming…
    -No wireless N wifi anymore
    -Compass quit working
-Swype keyboard quits sometimes in messaging and browser, it goes invisible
    -Netflix DOA
    -Random restarts
-App icons within folders are missing or very slow to populate, generic Android icons are there
    -PRL won’t update
    -Random voicemail notification
    -Notification LED not working
-Sense reloads when you hit the home key (random white screen)
-Call history no longer shows duration times
    -Voice recognition issues/DOA
-Wallpaper goes to default HTC rainbow bubble thingy upon reboot, then goes to user pref after about 20 secs

I have a support ticket still open with HTC but I’m not holding out a lot of hope here.  This is a disaster…

      • My picture mail seems to work when sending through gmail, yes.  Most of these issues seem to be occurring on hardware version 0003 for some reason. My co-worker has an EVO with hardware version 0002 and he is not seeing these problems.

  21. Since downloading 2.3, I keep getting a recurring voicemail notifications, and I have no voicemails, new or saved.  The touch pad seems less sensitive than before, and sometimes the “home” button doesn’t function properly. Overall, the system runs slower.  How does one revert back to an earlier OS. This 2.3 is for the birds!

  22. My snooze for clander events doesnt work and the time on my widget when i turn it on is set about an hour back so it flips to the new time everytime

  23. No problems at all with EVO 4g on gingerbread but of course I have been using cyanogenmod. And may I say even netflix works

  24. Maybe the retard calling sprint about his phones compass should go into his phones settings and calibrate the compass…. dumbass

  25. Since the update I’m experiencing an internal memory clitch.  keeps saying im low on memory. My voicemail notification keeps appearing even with no voicemails, i manually clear it in the settings for it to randomly comeback. My extended battery no longer extends…doesnt last much longer than my regular battery. and my phone randomly power cycles on occasions! I need a fix or 2.2 back!!!

  26. Powering the phone off does not work correctly since upgrade. the phone goes into sleep mode instead of shuting down.

    • That’s a “feature”–not a bug.  It’s the fast boot feature and can be turned off in settings if I recall correctly.

  27. EXCHANGE email (connected to Hotmail) works now with vanilla mail application HOWEVER it keeps telling me I have new mail in the widget when I don’t.  It might be reporting junk as opposed to just new mail in the inbox.  As a result, I learned to ignore any new mail whether it’s a false alarm or not. Pointless!

When notified of new text messages, selecting the widget just takes you to a a blank list–not directly to the new message.  Annoying!

Much, much laggier now.  Lots of screen pauses when performing basic scroll functions.  Yes, I wiped my EVO after the upgrade and the lag was immediate with a clean install.  I’ll probably flash the previous RUU if I can.  One good thing came out of this update and I don’t think it’s worth the performance drawbacks–instant Exchange/Hotmail notification.

  28. MY HTC EVO KEEPS DISPLAYING THAT I HAVE A VOICEMAIL….THIS IS ANNOYING, AND THE “HTC EVO 4G” IS SUPPOSE TO BE THE BEST…….. WAY TO GO GINGERBREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • To clear the voicemail icon, go to Settings > Call > Clear Voicemail Notification… then to KEEP it gone, go to Settings > System Updates > Update Profile  and Update PRL.  Only took me 5 days to find it…

  29. my phone is running so slowly! ever since the update, Pandora loans and loads and takes forever to get to the next song. And if you try to run the app in the background forget it! It won’t play another song until you make it the main program again.  Also, when I close out various apps it flashes to the white HTC screen and has to load like my phone has been turned off and back on again. Takes forever.
Netflix of course isn’t working, and random force closes. Very sad. 🙁

  31. Battery won’t fully charge…only half. I had an upgrade battery.  Switched to the original battery and it does the same thing.  When I answer the phone, it’s in speaker mode, although turned off in the settings. When I’m talking it intermittently switches between speaker and handset. I HATE the “Update”!!!!  I don’t blame Sprint…it’s Android and HTC to blame for this.

  32. I have a slough of problems that came with the 2.3 update
    – many apps crashed until re installed
    – I keep getting a voicemail notification without any voicemail.
    – you tube app loads random videos. You tube is a default app so it won’t uninstall.
    – Facebook would not refresh until I deleted and re registered my account with the app.
    – sense crashes and reboots randomly

  33. after my evo update, my music player says alot of my songs are in an unsupported format.. it can be something i listened to 10 min ago… also netflix isnt working, and my music player jumbles artists and titles, ie; tupac back by kanye west off the blueprint 3 album… any known fixes would be grand

  34. In addition to all the same problems reported, I am now having problems with my blue tooth. It does not always connect, it takes several attempts to turn on and randomly drops connection.

I also noticed that the snooze time was decreased from 15 to 10 min. Not a big deal but that should be configurable. I don’t like the drag up and down to answer or ignore calls either.

  35. Damn, why does Sprint have to mess a perfectly good phone!

    1) No NetFlix.
    2) Sense UI constantly force closes or stalls.
    3) Even more apps are constantly randomly opening in the back ground.
    4) The GPS active radar icon with the green bars is stuck on the top of the of the screen, even though GPS is turned off.
    5) When setting time in an appointment, the minutes scrolls weird, locking up after certain numbers.
    6) My MP3 library no longer works on the phone.
    7) Facebook I can not chat, the screen is always white, even though I see the convo on my PC.

Only thing I can say is good is that the battery is lasting much longer!

  36. htc is to blame for slaughtering these poor phones. my bluetooth volume is no longer loud enough to hear while driving my pandora also barely works on wifi on the 3g network it dont work at all my memory is gone almost completely and tons of apps crash and force close constantly especialy pandora my task killer keeps showing dozens of things that keep turning on and like everyone else false vmails which anything the phone does sucks down the battery and mines after market over sized seidio i called htc their answer was to format the phone which lost all my stuff for work im a contractor and i use the phone for navigation for time keeping and for entertainment all of those things no longer function correctly if they do at all. ginger bread sucks horribly and has no business being in a phone that it wasnt designed for.
yes i can remove the false vmail icon by doing menu calls clear vmail notification but thats not a fix it only removes it temporarily.

  37. Both mine and my wife’s EVO camera flash out of sync
Text-to-speech works 10% of the time.
Keyboard cursor placement jumps to other places different from what I selected.

  38. Camera function went to crap, resets my phone after selecting camera mode, receiving damaged sd card message, voice to text, netflix gone, double input screen with invisible stock and swype keyboard. Lets go sprint and htc get it together!

  39. Ignores default launcher…hit home button & I get sense when my default is go launcher ex. Anyone k.ow if uninstall / reinstall go launcher might fix? Yeah, this shld’ve been better. They had PLENTY of time to test it before release…but there are ALWAYS bugs right after…here’s to hoping they get the fixes out to us soon. Now I wish I hadn’t been in such a hurry for gingerbread…I KNOW that THIS bs is NOT what all the hype was about…

    • Download Home Switcher from the Market. Open the app, choose “clear default home,” then choose your preferred launcher.

  40. Adobe reader issues (says files are corrupted or no longer able to be read), phone much slower, keyboard less responsive.

  41. I was very happy about getting gingerbread and then they give us a half ass update. Nothing really updated but the battery foreal. I dont have many problems on my Evo besides the voicemail. If you look up the gingerbread update we supposed to have gotten way more features and another UI. One other thing is I’ve had problems with several Evo’s in the past, I’ve had about six of them. The speakerphone problem is very common. But if you call and complain to sprint and HTC they may help you out. KEEP CALLING IF YOU HAVE TOO, IT STAYS IN THEIR SYSTEM AND IS THEIR FOR YOUR INTEREST. I stood in line on June 14 to get my Evo and my satisfactory rating is about a 75% because of all the problems I’ve had.

  42. I did not get the new camera features on my evo 49 that gingerbread promised. I haven’t had a problem yet with the new keyboard, but I still can’t cut and paste out of my email account. This is troublesome. I now can’t seem to find the tab for going to groups to do a mass emailing. This sucks too. I will let you know more as I find out from use. Any suggestions for help on this…. thanks!

  43. WTF.. This update sucks bad… I can’t beleive they would release this with so many issues.. After readings all the posts i have alot of the same problems and i just sat on hold for 45 minutes after being transfered to 3 different people and no help.. There should be no reason why they don’t have a rollback for an update like this..

  44. Since upgrading to Gingerbread, my phone now reboots at random intervals, uses far more memory than before (even after I deleted the vast majority of my apps in an attempt to counteract the problem), and slows down so drastically while charging that it is impossible to use until I disconnect the charger.

  45. 1. Pandora Does Not Work 2. My videos can’t play, every time i try to play them i the screams turn black and i cant see or hear anything. 3. When i’m using the internet explorer app and press home, it takes a long time to reload my home screen. This happens countless of times.4. When i check the task-killer app, a massive number of apps are open thus my phone slows down considerately.5.TeleNav is always active and sincerely i dont own a car so whats the point of wasting my memory. 6. My other app aren’t working properly either. THANKS SO MUCH HTC! You just lost a loyal CUSTOMER!I’m really upset with this crappy update, you guys should be taken over by apple!

  46. Hi, Three major problems so far after last week htc evo android system update:

1= It erased all my screens of the icons I had placed in each screen. two hours work in the drain.

2- interal memory leak wigh stops me from either updating existing programs or installing new ones.
    That s the worse

3- Another problem that I didn t see mentioned anywhere is when I write a txt msg if I pass the 160 caracters from the allowance for one message then I can t erase back to come back at less than 160 caracters, I have to erase my entire message and recreate a new one or send a txt of two message wich not only cost more but is a problem for people receiving msg on older phone since they dont get it in the order emited.

So to put short and it terms that are politically correct so that post comes to the forum I would say that whoever company that deals with milllion of people and are so rich are really at the very bottom of business makers and I wish there would be a way to send all their programmers and software testers to the stone age where they belong.
Between Iphone that’s like Orwell 1984 and droid that looks tht the 1980’s Starwars but unfortunately don t work as well I feel like getting back to morse code or smoke signals…

  47. Few tiping error in my first post, sorry for that. Just one more thing they should call this system update ” I got lemons…” not Gingerbread. Anyway the only problem this food name system doesn t have is E COLI but it has all the others…

  48. My evo4g with Gingerbread upgrade now dropping calls
Which never happened. On 2.2….plus compass not
working…glitches popping up like rabbits…very disappointed..
Got caught between HTC and Sprint with no
Help from either..after two hours talking with both…
Hate to think about leaving to return to an iphone

  49. After allowing the the latest update 4.22.651.2 to install I cannot use the speaker with Navigation, holding the power button does not allow me to mute the phone especially when on a client site, and the clock is moving very slow. Is it possible to rollback the update to a previous version? I called Sprint tech support and they were not able to help either.

  50. The only way your going to fix your Evo is to ROOT. Voids warranty but im sure the possibility of bricking it is more appealing than having a messed up phone. Plus they have many one click methods that anyone can do. Google it.

    • There is no way to ROOT Gingerbread as of yet, so those of us who updated are screwed until someone cracks Gingerbread.

    • There is no way to ROOT Gingerbread as of yet, so those of us who updated are screwed until someone cracks Gingerbread.

    • I’ve been getting the exact same problem. I tap the icon, see that there are in fact no new messages to be read, then go back to the home screen; after a couple of seconds, the number disappears from the icon. But then it ALWAYS reappears subsequently, so the “fix” never takes.

  51. Voice to text (which I used a lot) is not working!!! WTF?!?!? I have the Sprint HTC Evo. I had planned on getting the Evo 3D Friday, but if it’s going to have all these issues that the present Evo have with the gingerbread upgrade, then forget it!! Somebody at Google had better bake a fresh batch and FAST because this one was stale on delivery.

  52. my voice to text does not work anymore, i have the voicemail icon with no voicemails, and sometimes my screen doesn’t time out at the 15 or 30 seconds I have it set for.  NOT HAPPY with the gingerbread update. Was told by Sprint they could do a factory reset to solve the voicemail icon. I am awaiting an update to fix the problems. NOT happy to know I have more of them I just don’t know about yet.

  53. My google voice doesn’t work. as well in my menu bar shows I have a headset hook in when I don’t and have to reset blue tooth icon at least 6 times a day, drops bluetooth for no reason

  54. My google voice doesn’t work. as well in my menu bar shows I have a headset hook in when I don’t and have to reset blue tooth icon at least 6 times a day, drops bluetooth for no reason

  55. Ive noted with the first update on 6/6/11 my sound in the speakers when playing sounded stacticy or muffled. I downloaded the newest update on 6/23/11 hoping it would fix that but no luck. It worked perfect before the update, anyone else noticed this issue with there EVO 4G?

  57. Everything stated so far plus all my notification sounds stop working about 10 minutes after reboot. No task killer.
Also live wall papers don’t load on reboot.

  58. I flat out can’t make phone calls now because the Contacts app and the Phone app lock up…CONSISTANTLY, don’t bother with this update.

  59. ALL I ASK FOR IS FOR MY TEXT CONVERSATION TO BE IN ORDER — is that too much to flippin ask for a SMART phone????!!

  60. Update sucks!!!!! Pandora just loads and never works, flash timing is off when taking pictures. I hate this update, even the fix didn’t do me any good!!!!! Any way to go back to 2.2?

  61. I can’t use speech for text, google and many other sites don’t work well anymore, and a number of apps including netflix don’t work either. I want my 2.2 back!

  62. Contacts I had sorted into various Groups (eg ‘Work’) are no longer in alphabetical order.  If I click on Menu / Edit Group they then appear in the correct order, however they return to some random sort after the menu is exited.

    • Same here, I have nearly 100 contacts in the work group that I use nearly every day.  The disorganization is a time and productivity killer.  Need a fix for this badly.

  65. My Voicemail just doesn’t work at all. I wish I had the phantom voicemail problem. At least then it would work. everytime I try to open my voicemail or turn on my phone, it FORCE CLOSES. I have to call myself to check if I have any voicemails everyday. And today I had my roommate call me and it rang 4 times on her end and my phone never even rang once or chowed that I had a missed call. Gingerbread has bricked my phone.

  66. As soon as I updated, I saw an onscreen warning about in mounting my SD card. Next thing now my card is not only corrupt, but unable to be formatted per a Sprint store rep. Battery is draining faster than the previous update.

    • My Evo doesn’t sense my SD card either. No pictures, music, etc. I’ve done everything I can think of. Turning off the phone, removing the SD card, replacing it, and turning the phone on again, and nothing! So frustrating. I went to a Sprint store in my neighborhood and the guy basically told me I’m screwed until a new software update is released. Unacceptable!

  67. FYI–regarding the speech to text function.  I am having the same problem when in the car–speech to text does not work.  I have found that if you put your finger over the microphone hole and then press the microphone button, that it will work most of the time.  Still, has to be some kind of change in the software that needs to be fixed, el pronto…

  68. Voice to text does not work as well anymore.  Text message indicator does not reset after you read your text, you have to open it back up and close it agian to get it to reset.

  69. Can’t send pics, can’t update prl, firmware, etc.. screen just goes black. I’ve had to purchase a different keyboard. Thanks for nothing gingerbread.. btw netflicks works now people, that’s the least of of problems with this shitty update. Need a fix, quick.

  71. My biggest complaint is that after using an app, or setting the web for more than 5 minutes, when I hit yhe “home” button it senda me to the whote HTC screen, then slowly loads my home screen. It happens ALL the time.

  72. Multiple issues…..battery drains faster, voice to text is totally trashed now. Also wondering where the whole new interface is……dissapointing update. Email config for Yahoo and Google not working right, had to download Yahoo mail app and Google mail app from marketplace.

  73. Here’s the problems with mines:

–Phantom voicemail, tried everything to “clearing voicemail” under settings to updating the PRL – no fix. I was told the update that was released on June 20 was suppose to fix this problem; it didn’t, not on mines.
–My ringer barely works even tho I have my ringer volume set at high. Basically I’ve missing calls after calls because I cannot here my phone ring. For me this is the BIGGEST problem and wish can be corrected ASAP! My son car broke down and I didn’t hear his call, even tho my phone was within arm length the whole time.
–When I’m writing a text, and etc, and need to move the cursor back to make corrections it jumps in random spots and at times the text area goes black.
–The Back/Return button doesn’t work right, always takes me back to my homescreen not the previous page/app.
–Cannot stream nothing anymore; songs, movies…nada.
–Whenever I download stuff, I find it takes as much as four times longer to fully download things now.
–With every boot up, it automatically turns 4G on.
–Some of my widgets; ie Clock, Weather, Facebook don’t display stuff half the time. I have to open the full app to gather info.
–Random freezes and reboots happen for no reason at all. The other day I typing up a text message and phone just shut down and rebooted.
–Speech to text works like 35% of time and it seems now I pretty much have to scream at my phone to get it to work.
–Flash delay with taken pictures, plus it seems picture quality is now almost to horrid.

I’m not with update and wish I can have my old Evo back. I really loved my phone, but now not a day hour or minute goes by that I don’t want to hum it at the wall.

  74. what are you build numbers on your phones.  i had build number 4.22.651.2. today i downloaded 4.24.651.1 hopefully this update will work. i had the same issues you guys had. i hope this update is better

  75. Just updated my EVO on the 25th.  Now my email does not work, my voice to text does not work….sure I will find more problems.  Wish I had seen this page before downloading!

  76. I downloaded Gingerbread for my Desire HD yesterday (UK) and I have NOT got the new keyboard or new UI!! There is very little difference and i’m very disappointed in the update.

  77. You haven’t found my fix, yet?  I’ll post it on this page, too.
Keywords: fixed, solution, corrected, HTC EVO 4G Android 2.3 repaired: It’s been 46 hours since I did my procedure and the problems are still all gone.  My phone is smart, again.  Un-check the Quick Boot feature in the Settings / Applications section, shut down and re-start your phone.  You are done!
If you have not yet upgraded to 2.3, un-check the Quick Boot feature in the Settings / Applications section while still on Android 2.2 before thinking about upgrading your phone.
    Gareth

  78. All of the below listed is wrong with my phone, then Facebook looked great with the new update for 4 days.  Now it jumps across the screen and wont stop.  We should all stop paying our bill and make a statement  Revolution!!!!

  79. My video playback is jittery, audio lags a couple seconds behind video.
spoken text no longer works.  keeps saying “speak louder”
phone locks up and I cannot answer or hand up calls
    randomly reboots.
    Pictures are no longer crisp.
My emails from different accounts are downloading to other accounts.
The list goes on and on.

  80. Phone will not switch off unless I take the battery out. Switching off the phone just puts it to sleep but when I “turn it back on” it does a very very fast version of the sprint EVO 4g animation intro along with loading the phone all under 7 seconds rather than the usual 40 seconds. This means its really not off.

Web broswer is laggy or just doesn’t load.

YouTube doesn’t find anything or bring up even popular videos when YouTube is started.

When I actually take the battery out and fire up the phone again everything fine for the first half be then its back to captain slow or captain stall.

  81. HAS ANYONE REALISED THAT THIS IS ALL A SETUP?

THE NEW EVO 3D IS OUT AND THEY WANT US TO CONSIDER BUYING IT?

SERIOUSLY. ATLEAST 60% OF EVO OR ANDROID OWNERS ARENT THAT TECH SAVVY TO BREAK DOWN THESE ISSUES OR EVEN CARE. I SEEN EVERYONE AND THEIR DAMN GRANDMA WITH THIS PHONE AND IT’S THOSE PEOPLE WHO WILL UPGRADE. EITHER THEY UPGRADE COS THEIR EVO FEELS SLOW OR EITHER CALL SPRINT TO COMPLAIN AND BE SUCKERED INTO AND UPGRADE.

    • Considering Sprint has nothing to do with the development of Android this point-of-view is a little absurd. Sprint sells the evo exclusively but issues with 2.3 are affecting nearly all android phones regardless of carrier.

  82. Installed gingerbread about one week ago on my evo 4g. My phone was working fine without any issues until yesterday. The phone powered off at some point and would not turn back on. The charging indicator light would not come on after trying with multiple chargers. Luckily my evo was still under warranty so sprint replaced it with a brand new unit free of charge. I will definitely be holding off on installing that upgrade again until I have confirmation that all the issues are resolved. I found it quite curious that the first question the repair technician asked me was if I had installed the update, and he didn’t seem surprised when he found out that I had. Up until now I have trusted android completely, but releasing an update with this many bugs is irresponsible at best.

  84. I guess I really got lucky then. I tried to update and my update failed. I called Sprint, and the first rep said the same thing happened to her boss, and she had to get a new phone; she transferred me to that department, who decided to “try one more thing” over the air before replacing my phone. Now no one will replace my phone without me going into the store and spending another hour, which I refuse to do over an update.

So, after reading all the comments here, I’m pretty happy the update didn’t work on my phone! I’ll just sit tight for a while until there’s a release that fixes all the bugs and a ROOT crack for Gingerbread.

  85. I’ve been having issues with the screen saying “loading” for about 10-15 seconds after I leave any app, messages etc.   Also yesterday my text message started to do funky things.  I got a text at noon that had a time of 7 pm on it, then the messages began to be separated by the person instead of flowing in a conversation. It was confusing having to scroll up to see their most recent text.  Anyone else having this problem?

    • This is happening to me, too. Almost every time I leave an app, particularly Market, SenseUI crashes and I get the white screen until it restarts itself. This is extremely irritating. HTC had better release a fix for this quickly. I was very unhappy with my Hero, so six months ago I upgraded to this phone, only to now have it be turned into a piece of junk too by HTC. If they don’t straighten up their act and release an update to fix these issues soon, I’m never buying an HTC again. I’m sick of being forced into updating simply because the phones are junk. I’ll just buy another brand that doesn’t sell junk or “upgrade” their phones to turn them into junk.

      • after i updated to 2.3, my phone crashes almost everyday after taking a picture or after taking pic and uploading to fb.

  86. So far I haven’t been impressed with HTC. My first phone with them was the Hero. It worked fine for awhile then I had the “low space” issue because all apps were downloaded to the phone instead of SD. Rooting the phone helped this issue but the phone would freeze up at least once a day. Got my EVO September 2011 and I am now on my fourth one. The camera stopped working on the first one. When I received the second one the charger port was defective from the jump (this is a major problem they’re having with the EVO’s). The third one worked fine for awhile even after upgrading to Gingerbread. It seemed faster and the battery life was slightly improved then the charge port broke on that one too. Now on my fourth one and it’s very and it’s very “gltchy”. Also couldnt delete the download history but that seems to be working now, and I can’t move photo attachments from the email app to the gallery. I’m going to try the Motorola Photon when it comes out.

    • Oh yea, i am having the same issue with my charger port for the second time at first i just purchased another usb cord and it was ok for a while and now a month or two later here we are again, smh.

  87. my phone reset it itself and now is saying “phone storage space is getting low”.  so frustrated with this experience (versus my previous iPhone experience).

  88. I have had a slew of problems after the update. Try this! I saved all info to sd card and did a factory reset. My phone seems to be working alot better now. The problems I had were. Making callls i.e. no ringing, no voice recognition with navigation,  text messages undelivered, and slow keyboard response. Hope this helps I know it sucks, but I think this is working for me so far.

  89. Since the upgrade my phone keeps freezing. It force closes or completely restarts everytime I exit an app… My voice mail alert from Sprint also kept coming up and forced me to setup up a voicemail that I don’t even use( I use Google voice).. the keys freeze up and I have to take the battery out to restart it…

  90. I wanna take a hammer to my EVO because everything that I bought it for does not work with this new software update. I never thought google would let me down but now I am seriously disappointed!!!

  91. Noticed that the EVO shift ‘s drop down drawer has a better interface than my EVO 4g wondering if its just mines. Everything looks the same

  92. Trying to select a name for a NEW MESSAGE is impossible.  The recommended name for the entered recipient flashes and disappears before I can select the name.  I also have the common problem with the Sprint Message indicator ALWAYS on in my alerts.  When can we expect some fixes to what “USED” to be a great phone.  THIS SUCKS!!

  93. I have the evo 4 g and I keep getting voicemail notifications when there isn’t any and i can’t clear out from the notification bar!

  94. @ Leshandenae had the same problem after the update. Go to MENU-SETTINGS-CALL-CLEAR VOICEMAIL NOTIFICATION. The notification still popped up a couple of times a day but it eventually stopped. Hope this helps.

  95. I started having problems 2 weeks ago with mine. It was doing on constant reboot on the SPRINT splash.  After a few days of pulling my battery, I got the INCONSISTANT UID’s message, then recieved the message Sorry the application internet (process.com.android.browswer has stopped unexpectlly). Then I got TEL NAV freezes and reboots going down the interstate no less.  Then it’s been taking photos in low light….it freezes.  All of those I’ve been able to take care of my pulling the battery.  (have fast boot off)  Then about 10 days ago, started to get the constant reboot of the white HTC, EVO 4G screen…won’t stop,  vibrates and reboots, reboots, and reboots.  Battery pulls to stop it, but then it would not start up hitting the power button.    When I get the white HTC splash screen reboots, after I pull the battery, I have to start it up by holding the power button and the vol down button.    I have cleared the SD card, wiped the partition, taken off all of the apps I had…like DISH, FACEBOOK…nothing wild, no games, factory reset 6 times….reported the problem to HTC.  Got their canned response.  Have had the phone exactly one year this last July 9 and it was perfect until the GB update.  Sad, very sad.   Hope HTC and  Sprint realizes that these types of hassels are what makes consumers look at different brands and companies that are more responsive and don’t put out faulty updates.  Sprint…give HTC some heat, will you?  Know the EVO isn’t the new phone on the block now, so supose fixing it isn’t a priority…but it is for those of us that have to be on contract for another year!

    • I am having the exact same problem plus some, i pull out the battery constantly and this is getting old, i am about to act by getting another phone or something, i pay to much for this constant crap to happen.  I know nothing is perfect but i can sure shoot for it.   My phone will ring sometime and I can’t even answer it because it blacks out.

    • EXACT same problems! Sprint says the only solution is wipe it clean and start from scratch. This is unacceptable to me! If I have to start from scratch I’ll do it with another company – bad customer service Sprint!!

  96. My battery life did not change..
My voice to text does not work ( very important when driving)
Phone navigation speed has slowed a lot , and goes to the HTC screen sometimes when closing an app.
My widget for control panel does not work.

  97. My phone asked to update, I selected no.  I few days later I started to notice that phone calls would be speakerphone by default and the phone is constantly switching to Car Panel.  I would like to undo the update that to place without my permission.  This may be the motivation I need to begin rooting.

    • I’m having the same issues!  It constantly goes into car mode without me doing anything, my phone calls are automatically on speaker phone, and my Navigation no longer works… how can I fix this?

  98. I have been having the issue that every time I hit home, it goes to the white and green screen saying HTC. It does this every time and my apps reboot, and it takes forever! Where is the fix for this??

  100. Phone calls would be speakerphone by default all of a sudden and happens all the time, the key board works sometime, the swype lines disappeared, it freezes all the time, the volume for my media works here and there, the phone would all of a sudden react as if it was restarting.  It has turned into a hot mess, I was beginning to think it had a virus.

  101. After Gingerbread my EVO constantly had a white screen come up with the HTC logo and then it says it is “loading”.. takes 20-30 seconds for my phone to become useable again?? WTF

  102. I just did the “Gingerbread” update last week, I have bypasssed it every other time it promted me.  Since the update I can barely use the internet.  I can check my mail and go on facebook, but most of the time when I try to use google to snter a web address or just search something I get a message saying “the webpage in available, it may be temporarily unavailable or have moved”.  I have been on the phone with Sprint tech several time and been in the repair store. I am just told to reset the phone and they are aware of the issue.  I did reset, but same issues still happening.  Does anyone else have these issues?  Any advice on how to fix?

  103. Here is a list of the things that the Gingerbread update did to my 48 hour old Evo 4G

    slow operating speed
    doesn’t keep time properly
will not connect to wifi reliably
will not pair to bluetooth in car
     no 3g access– email/web only on 4G
no profile update or PRL update access
telephone call ability is spotty at best– either I get static or calls will not go through
    battery will not charge properly

    • MINE WILL DO THE SAME. aND ALSO WHEN I LEAVE ONE APP OR LEAVE ANYTHING LIKE HIT HOME KEY WHITE SCREEN AND THE WORD HTC ACROSS AND LOADS MY PHONE EVERYTIME.  IT IS VERY ANNOYING.. I DONT GET ALL MY MESSAGES, THINGS RUN SLOW AND THE TIME DONT KEEP UP.. I JUST REALLY DONT LIKE THIS UPDATE I WANT TO GO BACK BEFORE I THROW MY 400.00 PHONE THRU THE WINDOW!!!

    • I’m having basically the same problems anyone know how to fix them? I’m also getting A LOT of error messages and force close messages!!! I’m so f*cking pissed. When I took it in they said someone must have got a hold of my phone a changed the Kernel well no one did it hasnt been out of my sight for more that 2 minutes!! they gave me a new phone and I’m still having the same problems!!!!! Ididnt pay 400.00 for this phone for it to be like this. If I would of known I would of bought a cheaper phone!!

  104. The Gingerbread update made the Evo almost unusable, Spoke to some buddies with same phone and they recommended the easy root from UnrEvoked and installing Cyanogenmod 7. Took some reading and little time, but all I can say is WOW!!!

All my stuff works!! Faster and smaller footprint, no sprint crap. THIS ROCKS!! This is the way the Evo should be!!

Seriously, if you want to end the SenseLess nightmare, root your phone, install CM7 and latest gapps (Google Apps). I should have done this a month ago.

  107. When i exit out of an app my evo 4g goes back to the white htc screen for a couple seconds then will go to the home screen after loading.  It did this very little before the upgrade but it seems as if it does this after i exit out of any app now

  108. What is being done about this???? Ever since Gingerbread my phone shuts down after 5 minutes use – white screen with HTC EVO – tries to start up but can’t often the only way to fix is to remove the battery for about 15 minutes. When is a fix coming?

  109. If you factory data reset your phone that will un install all of your updates and should fix this problem untill the next update comes out. Am I wrong?

  110. Lost my contacts, lost paid apps, lost sms messages, lost voice mails , it did almost reset it to factory setting. I am really pissed off.

  111. Everything is slow. When I switch between apps or home pages it sometimes takes forever – stinks for productivity.  Start up/Restart now takes at least 5-6 minutes.  HTC sense closes every 5 seconds–sometimes even when I am on the home page.  Voice search no longer works when I have my bluetooth connected.  This is really awful.  Are they going to do a fix soon or am I going to have to pay the $550 to switch to the Motorola Photon?

  113. Sprint 2.3 update ruined connection to exchange server for calendar and contacts.  2.2 worked great with stock HTC Sense and update no longer works.  Installed Touchdown and works OK so some problem with gingerbread and HTC sense calendar.

  116. Has anyone check the manage applications and seen one called ringtone widget? If you look there is no such widget and the permissions are outrageous for a “ringtone” anything. Also i have discovered tjat if you force close it it messes things up and gives you the white htc page and reloads everything. Something is very wrong.

  117. This update has completely taken away a piece of almost everything I used. NO more netflix voice input will only work when I have 6 full bars. internet app doesnt work cant use many PAID apps like GAMEBOID and the dev emailed me every version he has made. COMPASS is the worst part of it does anyone know if it affects gps lately its been telling me to take odd routes. Sprint tried to downgrade back to 2.2 for me no success HUH thought they of all could do worst of all I MISS MY HAXSUNG samsung moment it lagged here and there but i cant even use any features of evo because they cant root. IF they dont fix soon i will have to go somewhere else

  118. I was wondering if anyone else has a date/time automatic glitch? Basically, my phone’s date & time is set to automatic, and out of nowhere, I look at my clock & it says 11:30 when it’s really 3:20, and it says it’s August 5th (the day I downloaded the upgrade) when it’s August 8th. I can easily fix this by setting it to manual, but that doesn’t mean it stopped the glitch & that’ll be the end of it. I have a T-Mobile G. I called them & apparently I’m the first one to have this problem. Also, my phone still turns off on its own, and my browser forces close ALL the time, which was supposed to be fixed in this current update. What’s the point of an update if it’s worse than the previous version?!

  119. I had a minor issue with the mic (only works properly in Google apps), but otherwise Gingerbread worked fine.  Something is very odd about how random the errors are…

  120. My EVO continually shuts off now – for no reason – and now sometimes it doesn’t even want to come back up!  Errr – this is driving me crazy!

  121. Deskclock Weather feature no longer works. Cursor bounces all over the place when entering text. Built in browser jumps to the right side of the page after zoom. Still finding other issues daily.

  122. Deskclock Weather feature no longer works. Cursor bounces all over the place when entering text. Built in browser jumps to the right side of the page after zoom. Still finding other issues daily.

  123. I had the same rebooting to the white HTC screen/ power cycle loop as described in may of the posts here PRIOR to the GB update. I factory reset the phone (per Sprint) with no change. Sprint replaced the phone as a HW issue. Be warned…

  124. Reloads home screen every time i push the back button or return home. I can fix it temporarily. By deleting the animated clock background and doing a soft reset it seemed to make it work until I get on the internet too much then it does it again. Then again I do a soft reset to fix it again temporarily. It would probably be fixed if i did a hard reset but I dont want to lose any data. When will this be fixed for good !?!?!?

    • i have the same issue for a couple of months now.  did you ever find a fix?  this is a htc evo issue as other android phones don’t do this.  the lack of support from htc is too much.  i think i’m done with htc phones.

  125. Trying desperately to get support.  Reboots itself all the time while using as a GPS, speech to text is no good anymore.  Call duration erased and no longer exists.  I used to brag about this phone.  I am desperate to get 2.2 put back in.  Anyone have luck with that or calling corporate headquarters?  Tech. support and repair dept. are useless and know only to format the phone which does nothing to solve problems, but erased all my good ap. data.

  126. i am on my FIFTH evo. and i have to go get a new one tomorrow. i have had nothing but trouble out of it and i absolutely hate it. its great when its working, but thats not often. is there any way i can get a phone upgrade?

    • My boyfriend is on his sixth phone in two months!!! This one ha has had less than a day it freezes shuts off and won’t turn on….it has literally rebooted itself 8 times now in 20 mins!!!! Every replacement he gets has been like this….

  127. Beka you’ll have to tell me how you got to #5 (not that it seemed to help) – I had to pull teeth to get the second one and since then I’m constantly talking to Support with them saying no one else has problems but me. Now with the latest update it’s hard to tell what’s a known issue with it and what is from before. Now I get missing keyboard (well actually the keyboard is invisible – you can tap it and letters appear), the sensors off, and the home key doesn’t work properly. I tried loading Go Launcher but it doesn’t stick so I have to keep reloading it. And of course I’m getting the “insufficient memory” so I can’t update anything.

Take this one top of the pre-update problems where my phone could be across the room and start texting people, calling people, making voice recordings, etc. It’s a great party game but otherwise is pretty awful.

David, I had that gps reboot problem after I reported other problems, and then I found out there was a network problem they were trying to troubleshoot here – and it almost seemed like they had put some kind of tracer or debug in because after the network problems were “resolved” ie they quit monkeying around, the gps quit acting up.

  128. The worst thing I think is the lack of response from Sprint. For some weird reason I only got the alert to update yesterday; I googled the version but for some reason none of these complaint sites showed up, so I figured it was safe. Wow what a mistake! And then I talk to a friend and find out that Sprint just talked them into getting an Evo two days before and didn’t say a word about problems.

  129. Trouble connecting to the internet. Frequently shuts down in the middle of browsing. The worst thing is when while texting it inexplicably shoots me up to the top of the texting page (first text) and i have to scroll all the way back down to finish typing the text. This happens a lot and is a real pain when you have a list of 700texts with a person.

  130. Ashy are people blaming phone companies and phone makers? This update is from Google! It’s been like this since the G1 phone, which sucked and is still going on. This is the main reason why I wouldn’t leave apple. My phone always works!

  131. After my Updates my phone resets (turns off then on) RANDONLY when using the keyboard and running other Apps at the same time.  Whether it be Pandora, Navigation, texting and so on.

The concept of Android was to expand the App market to users outside of APPLE.  Thunderbolt, EVO and other Android devices are becoming a bad investment.  I’m thinking going back to my RELIABLE flip phone.  In the beginning Android made sense.  But they’ve lost sight by releasing shotty and unproven upgrades.

Android has single handly bred in weakness by overspecializing.

  132. message window pops up with longer texts, first saying “switching to mms” then saying “switching to sms”, what it’s not doing is allowing me to send this message. I actually have to restart the phone to get rid of this notification, and lose the long ass text i just typed. Fuck you Evo!

  133. Native internet browser randomly freezes or completely closes and occasionally the white HTC screen will show when the browser closes. This is a daily occurrence. All started after gingerbread update!

  134. Native internet browser randomly freezes or completely closes and occasionally the white HTC screen will show when the browser closes. This is a daily occurrence. All started after gingerbread update!

  135. I can’t figure out what is running that is causing my battery to drain, it all started with this update. And my corporate email won’t sync. It’s far too focused on gmail which I don’t even use.

  136. After the update, my phone continuously restarts, locks, and restarts again. I have to do a hard reset every time in order to get to the main UI screen.  (I suggest that everyone get Astro File Manager to backup all apps onto SC card).

After hard reset, the phone seems to work okay. But soon enough, it’ll start doing it again after a day or so. Now, I just turned off the ‘automatic update’ feature in the Settings menu. Hopefully that will keep it from updating…we’ll see if this method works.

  137. I just bought my Sprint Evo 4g literally last Friday, and got to enjoy it little, before I had an update ready from 2.2 to 2.3. After update I lost the ability to control my brightness in display. I don’t know how to get this fixed! Any one else have just this specific problem with the upgrade?

  138. I still have the issue with messages being send to random recipients. and my phone takes 5 minutes to boot. WIFI turns on by itself draining my battery. Not sure if it’s the sense UI or android itself that sucks but this has made me want to go back to the iphone.

  139. the upgrade kills my wi-fi and 4g. They wont connect unless i make a call! Plus numerous other issues dealing with random restarts and keyboard issues.

    • Thank you! How is it possible that it became LESS helpful when I’m texting? And is it just me or does the spacebar keep getting smaller and smaller? I might as well resign myself to having periods where a space should be. It was so nice not to have to search for the apostrophe because my optimus would just say “hey, here’s what you’re looking for” but now it just gives me all my contact names. Can I undo this update? I want my old phone back.

  140. not an evo but lg optimus… got the gingerbread update couple days ago and DO NOT LIKE IT… esp since i text a lot and it doesnt give any suggestions for words like it used to….REALLY FREAKIN IRRIATATING !!!

  141. It sucks i cant download anything anymore
It says it downloads a song but its no where in any music files. And if i try to download an image i have to download it 5-6 times before i get it. Cant export music from my phone to my computer anymore. Its slower it TOTALLY SUCKS. I wish i didnt update.

  142. Seems like there’s been another operating update since this was started, but I’ve got several issues that I didn’t have when I first got this phone. Speech to text is still fried, phone shuts down without notice or reason-even with a full battery, some contacts switched from first name first to last name first, random apps seem to pop up without me hitting anything. Utterly unacceptable and turned what started out as a great phone, into something mediocre at best. One has to wonder if this is somewhat intentional, to try and push people into buying the latest, greatest phone? How else do you explain something being screwed up as bad as this has been?

  143. 2 things I have noticed:  my screen timeout sometimes does not operate correctly.  My phone is set to timeout in 1 minute and it does not timeout.  This happens intermittently and there is no rhyme nor reason as to why it works sometimes and not other times.

Recently, when I hit the “back” button the screen goes to white with the htc logo and then my screen appears with the grey “loading” window and then the home screen comes back.  Very strange…

    Never experienced these issues previously…

  144. I use my Evo 4G to tether internet to my computer. I’m in a 4G accessible area & have been quite successfully using 4G speeds until recently. Now my $G button doesn’t even recognized that I am touching it most of the time & when it does, the antennae just scans & scans to no avail. Sprint & their app developers need to take their heads out of each others orifices long enough to get these problems rectified.

    • Exactly!  They have no fix even now, execpt they want to do a full reset and dump everything on my phone.  What the hell?
The other day I got notice that there was a 2.5 update.  I didn’t download it because of the file size and lack of time, and now it’s gone.  HTC says they never issued version 2.5.  They can’t even get that straight…

  145. Well my problem with the Gingerbread update is quite simple!   It restarts and restarts and restarts! one 2 3 multiple times!!!!! its annoying! i try to pull off the battery and place it back again, but once it comes to home screen, it shows a sign of loading and restarts!…. after that, it shows the HTC EVO 4G white screen,   it stays there for more than 10 minutes… and restarts! by itself!… i try to leave it alone and see if it was still loading!, battery went to 0% and i got to recharge it! never been able to turn it on!……. 3 days later i finally turn it on and it stayed there for good, but once i try to take a pic or connect it to the wifi…. restarts! restarts restarts and restarts!

      • Did they swap it out for you or did you have to buy one?  Did you get the same phone?  I have the same issue.  It started in June, but was random, now it happens constantly (the reboot loop that is).  If I have to replace it at my own expense, I’ll wait for the iPhone5.

      • A man on the Sprint site helped me swap it out – no cost. I got another EVO and it works great – back to the phone I loved so much at the beginning. If you go to the Sprint site look for a tech with the screen name OKIESTRO. He’ll help.

  146. After update no video, no YouTube, battery burning up, phone over heating. Data so slow
Dial up is faster. Have to replace hart. and phone. NO MORE HTC UPDATES PLEASE.

  147. The htc sense restart happens to me everyday. Plus twice a week, when I am texting, I won’t get a notification for a incoming text message. When I check my inbox it says I have a new message but the time is about 5 hours ahead of real time which is why I dont get a notification. Also, when I am listening to my music from my sd card, the phone will just stop playing the music out of nowhere.

  148. Recently my Evo has been crashing. It first started to lock up and freeze. I took the phone to a sprint dealer and they wiped it clean and loaded the software. All was good for a few weeks. Now my phone randomly freezes the automatically goes to the “4G” screen you see when turn you phone on. At that point I have to take the battery out. All Sprint can tell me is either reinstall the software again or buy a new phone.

    • Mine started doing this…now it will not even reboot when when I take the battery out and replace it, it automatically goes back to the “4G” screen.  The phone is useless, have had it for just under a year.

  149. Yep, got a problem. No internet on my EVO 4G. Sprint tried to fix the phone online and in the store as well. No luck. Error message almost every time I use the phone feature. So Sprint is sending me a new phone. Problem is now I have to redo my phone settings and address book, etc. Still like this phone though. Up to now it has been the best phone I have had. Sprint coverage is great in Santa Fe, NM. HTC needs to test their updates….but not on us! Sprint dropped the ball but at least I get a new phone.

  150. I am now on my THIRD MyTouch4G. After updating my first in August and trying to work around the issues, my phone continually crashing, shutting off, locking up/freezing, I finally got TMobile to send me a new one. Alas, it already had the upgrade installed. After using it for 5 days the same symptoms appeared – with the addition of NOT being able to hang up phone calls and random upside down screens. After complaining and requesting another phone altogether, they decided to send yet ANOTHER stupid MyTouch4G/ HTC Sense. I cannot believe I gave up my 32gb iPhone 3GS for this piece of crap. Even on the TMobile network the phone was far more reliable and without glitches. It may not have been quite as fast, but functionality and reliability are far more important. My husband & daughter have had similar issues and my daughter’s phone wouldn’t even turn on after the update.

  151. I’m on my second HTC Evo 4G since July 2011. Great phone, but I started having the reboot issue about one month after I got it. The phone would reboot itself every now and then, but then it got to be on a regular basis, several times a day and back to back. I had it hard reset at the Sprint store and the problem continued. I took the phone back to the store last Friday and they ordered me a refurbished one. I picked that one up last Wednesday and before I got it home, it started doing the same thing.  I then called Sprint and the tech walked me through a hard/factory reset (not sure if there is a difference), but this time I had to enter some codes that she gave me over the phone. The phone was fine for about 5 minutes after that, but when I started entering my Google info, it instantly started rebooting again. Fortunately, the Sprint tech hung around on the phone with me to make sure the reset worked and she was able to hear that it didn’t. The tech told me that this is a known issue and that if the reset does not work, I would need to have the phone replaced. I go to get my new phone this Saturday. I’m hoping I don’t get another lemon.

What I noticed is that when the phone was reset, I did not choose the option to allow Google to use my location, etc. I also did not set up my Gmail accounts initially. The tech and I stayed on the phone and chatted for a while and everything seemed fine, but when I entered my Google info in order to use the Market, the rebooting loop started again. Maybe the issue is related to syncing with Google.

  152. My HTC EVO is having more and more problems. Now everytime I text someone, it goes into a loop and sends the same text literally about ten to twenty times! It’s making my friends mad and making me not wanting to text. An error code keeps popping up and it also goes automatically to the HTC screen and reboot. Sprint tech is no help! If Sprint replaces your phone, its with a refurbished one! Most likely will have same problems!

  153. Anybody have an issue where if you are using Google Navigation and answer a call over Bluetooth, the phone will crash and reboot? I’m having a problem with this that I don’t remember having on 2.2. I’d say the issue is frequent, not a constant issue but very annoying.

  154. Why does every update F-U a device, computer or phone or otherwise.  Talk about BETRAYAL of user TRUST.  Don’t send updates, if they really will cause the user more headache than they are worth.  I’m BEYOND PISSED off!

  155. My EVO has been effed ever since the Gingerbread update. Sprint told me by September 1st there would be a fix, guess what its November 1st and there’s still nothing. Sprint tech said there’s nothing I can do. LOL! I get the HTC splash screen at least 40 times a day. This was a great edging phone before that update and it was an iPhone killer, now its a brick. HTC should stop making phones and fire all their techs.

    • I have the same problem with my EVO, keep getting flash screen when i move from email to home or texting, etc.  Also notice the touch screen has delay in it and sometimes doesnt respond at first touch.  Camera works very slowly.

  156. After the update, my touchscreen no longer works properly.  I can’t turn on the phone without pulling out the keyboard, and there are a bunch of other touchscreen problems.  Please fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  157. not sure if processing issue…or user issue, so wondering if someone else has this problem. (it’s happened before and after updates..so thinking it’s user related) When typing a text message, sometimes my screen will jump to the very beginning of my text messaging stream. So if i’m texting my husband….and it jumps to the top…it’s takes FOREVER to scroll back down to the text box. So i’m not sure if i’m bumping a button accidentally or what…or why there would be such a button to jump to the top of the stream..thoughts?

    • I’ve had this happen to me on occasion. Instead of scrolling all the way back down just hit the back button then go back and you should be at the bottom.

  158. forced update on my droid 2 G has caused way to many problems to list,I signed a contract under my old service that worked, does this break the contract?

    • the only good it does is i can see lots of people are being chumped and  its convinces me to never buy htc crap or get my service from sprint again.

  159. My phone wont even turn on. All it does it constantly flash the “htc evo 4g” page a million times until i take out the battery.

    • its the cheap cord probably, the idiots designed a dumb charger jack, me and my daughter must keep trying cords till the charge light stays on ,the bad cords dont make a connection, and the charge light blinks untill totally dead. try anther cord. yes it is bullshit.

    • I have the same problem, I have to take my memory card out unplug & plung it in and reset it all the time, I fill like I’m a babysitter for my evil EVO. I use to love this phone but now I hate it. Sprint will not fix any thing, I think I’m going to change to a provider, where I can have any phone I want to, just take the sim card out & put it in any phone I want.

  160. MY EVO 4 CAME FACTORY EQUIPED WITH A BLOWN SPEAKER,JUST BLOWN SPEAKER SOUND WHEN I WATCH VIDEO OR WHATEVER, COOL AND SPEAKER PHONE CALLS? NOPE! AND I NOW HAVE DOZENS OF PEOPLE THAT THINK IM A LIAR BECAUSE I DONT ANSWER THIER CALLS, AND I SAY “IT NEVER RANG!” IT EVEN CALLS ON ITS OWN AT 2AM, BUT RINGS ON MY END, I ASKED MY BUSINESS PARTNER WHY HE WAS UP AT THAT TIME , HE SAID,”YOU CALLED ME” MY WIFE GOT UP TO ANSWER THE PHONE! OR THE CALL TO MY DAUGHTER TO TELL HER ABOUT A BIG ARGUMENT I WAS IN,,SHE SAID “I HEARD THE WHOLE THING DAD” AWESOME PHONE, I MUST ASSUME IT DIALED MY PARTNER ,HUNG UP,THEN HE CALLED BACK, BUT HE SAYS NO. THIS COMBO OF EVO 4 + SPRINT COULD EQUAL THE LOSS OF CUSTOMERS AND THE HORROR OF A PRIVATE MOMENT BEING HEARD BY WHOEVER EVO DECIDES TO CALL. ITS NOT  COOL, MAYBE EVO CAN RING UP THE MOTHER IN LAW WHILE YOUR GETTING IT ON WITH THE WIFE? ITS JUST EVO’S WAY OF FORCING ME TO BE A BETTER PERSON, THANK YOU SPRINT,THANK YOU HTC:)

    • I assume you returned it as soon as you tested the audio and found it the speaker was not working, correct? What did they say to deny you the return?

    • Same w me my husbands phone calls me at like 3am ……. Doesn’t register on his phone though that he’s called only shows on mine ……. This must be Sprint/htc’s way to get us to resign new contracts and buy new phones

  161. My camera on my HTC EVO locks up all the time, I can take 2 or 3 pictures and it will lock up and reboot. If I have taken a few pictures and go out of my camera and decided to take another, when I open my camera its noting but a black screen and guess what you have to do…reboot! It makes me so mad when of does that I want to slam my phone down and stomp the crap out of it! Anybody else have this problem???

    • Yes this continues to happen to me.  This issue has been going on since October 2011. I have gone through hard resets, replaced the camera, the camera apparently was disengaged, got a refurbished replacement, and now a brand spankin new one.  My phone started with taking superimposed pics, then the camera would go black.  It just went out on the new phone after taking twelve pics.  3 pics today and it went black. I did your reboot thing and now the camera is back. This is so flippin frustrating!  Any fix besides the restart?

  162. I dont really have too many problems, otherthen some of googles funky apps, like Gmail. I have got issues with Gmails spy permissions and what not, i also dont use everything on Evo to even know if things are in working order or not, i like this phone the Evo 4g, and people including Sprint sez the Iphones also have their issues, all Androids do in fact, if you restart, and with these you have to every so often, it gets the bugs out, no one likes to. Good luck and goodbye.

  163. Android operating system update + Phone manufacturer [HTC, Samsung, LG, etc.] + Carrier = slow product update release & a whole host of problems.

When attempting [following upgrade instructions to the letter] to move to 2.3.3, my phone was bricked.  Stuck on the Phone manufacturer logo.  I had to take my phone in for repair.  Two weeks later I received my phone with the ‘pretty’ 2.3.3 Gingerbread operating system.

Now, it’s a minor point to quibble but voice to text no longer works with text messaging, unless I’m connected to either Wifi or Mobile Data is turned on.  Prior to the update, I could use voice to text to compose an instant message without any data connection or Wifi, so something happened for the worse.

I’m not sure if Blackberry, Microsoft or Apple mobile phones have the same slew of problems Android based phone users are experiencing but I have to say, it’s a really terrible experience.  It seems manufacturers and carriers are sinking their dirty paws where they don’t belong and screwing up the update process.  Lack of thorough testing comes to mind and in this fast paced society we live in, it seems more and more common.
I have owned my first smartphone for just under 2 months now and I have to say I’m really disappointed in the experience.
The sheer number of people experiencing problems is astounding, not just from HTC users, but all manufacturers.
I am purely speculating here, but I think it might behoove Google to create an Android operating system that cannot be manipulated by mobile phone manufacturers or carriers.  One platform should potentially result in less errors or at least be easier to identify who’s to blame. There are simply too many parties involved for efficient implementation of the Android OS.  Sounds like I’m talking about Apple or Blackberry, I’m sure they have problems too, but surely less problematic.  Having said all this, I can’t justify spending top dollar for an Iphone or Blackberry.  Yet, maybe I should haha.

  164. Thanks a lot for NOTHING but COMPLETELY SCREWING UP my PHONE …… this is exactly why I DON’T DO UPGRADES …….. Sprint couldn’t fix it over the phone (they tried for 2 hours) went to the Sprint store hour later ….. Guess what SURPRISE still NOT WORKING !! I ACTUALLY HATE HATE HATE my PHONE NOW …… Hope someone got a nice BoNuS for this HEADACHE I’m experiencing … Oohh I have to enter my email address to post this ……… Awesome that doesn’t work anymore either ….. Hope the intentions aren’t to email me back on comment ……

  165. my evo is all fkd for the past 2 months since the last update, netflix crashes, phone restarts itself 10 times a day on its own, while im on fb or txtn it powers off like a totally dead batery(pls mind that its a almost full bat. or lil less)  i dont play football, but i surely wanna punt this fk 55 yards. upgrade time in june for me,&it will be an iphone….still will stay with sprint

  166. My alarm doesn’t work anymore! I have to use a back up alarm so I’m not late for work. The alarm picture will show up…..but no sound.

  167. The phone part of my phone doesnt work!!!!!!!!!!!! Every time I get a call it rings but has no caller id, no way to answer, then I get the “force close” popup! HELP!

  168. hey any body can help me out with the problem in HTC EVO 4G, most of the time a “Hands Free” pop up displays when i am gaming and it kills the app at that moment…..can anyone please tell me how to deactivate that “hands free” feature.

    Thanks in Advance

  169. My screen only turns on sometimes but its fully functional! like i remember my passcode and i can unloack it cus i feel the vibration BUT THE SCREEN IS JUST BLACK! AND WHERE THE FUCK IS MY NETFLIX

  170. Apparently when Sprint puts a EOL on a device, that’s it. Had my first EVO 4G for over a year and a half, and loved it. Somehow the case was damaged and had to get a replacement.
Here we go… The first thing I noticed was that the phone took an especially long time to return to the home page of HTC scenes from most apps if they were used for any length of time. Found out that Sprint had given the EVO 4G an EOL of the last week in Jan 2012. The first of Feb rolled around and I thought I’d better get updates while I could, as I am due for a new phone in July. Immediately I found my camera was unusable. The screen was scrambled with horizontal lines and random colors that continuously scrolled. after removing my misc camera apps and apps that utilized the camera in any way, I reset the phone and pulled the battery. No change. I took the phone to my local friendly Sprint store. I was told that it was a camera hardware issue. I have insurance so this didn’t bother me as much as I didn’t believe it was a hardware issue did. 45 min later I was told my phone needed to be reset to it’s original state. Sucks to be me, but If it has to be done I understand. 15 min later the service tech informed me that they were going to order me a “replacement”   We’ll see how it goes, but it seems to me that Sprint perhaps had knowledge that this update was going to create issues and they just put an EOL in place to cover their butts.

  171. My wifi drops out during games and netflix. force close aps all the time. my wife and I both have EVO’s and they are basically worthless junk now. I have uninstalled and factory reset both phones and still junk.

  172. Please help me somebody! Ever since the gingerbread update-my battery drains within TEN MINUTES SOMETIMES! I will have a full 100% charged battery and then will use it for almost ten minutes when it powers down! The battery life goes for possibly an hour if I manually go in and shut down EACH APP ONE BY ONE-but who wants to spend 20-30 mins of their day manually shutting down apps so they can use their phone for only an hour?! Its ridiculous! This happened immediately when I updated my phone. I have read a slew of comments on different forums with people saying the same thing-is there anyone out there that has found a solution ? I don’t have my wifi or GPS thing on. Is there an app that helps? I am so dang tired of this issue -I am about to throw my phone that I love so much out the window! Its so frustrating! Thanks!

  173. On my phone, the Wi-Fi keeps getting disconnected and keeps scanning and at the end, it joins the same wifi though. It only takes few sec of scanning and joins every quickly. But its very annoying cause your internet just stops woking all of a sudden.

  174. I have an HTC Flyer. Just today when I try to log into facebook, my keyboard won’ t appear when the log in fields are touched. The fields highlight, the keyboard just won’t appear. Any ideas?

  175. I have to take my memory card out before my phone will charge and then I have to keep connecting and disconnecting the power the cord until I can get a full charge. Every time I make a phone call I have a dropped call.

  176. My battery drains fast and when I use phone as a phone to hang up, I move phone away from ear to hang up the screen goes black and I have to pull battery out and restart phone nothing else works or when I answer an incoming call it goes straight to speaker… I also get that circle arrow at top all the time like its updating something… But its not.

  177. I suddenly started having all these problems in the past week…it’s infuriating,  I think Sprint is sending  out these bugs to force people to buy new phones…..

  178. I just updated, probably mistakenly to this new gingerbread thing.  I don’t seem to be having all the problems everyone else is having, but for some reason, I can’t use the internet when I’m connected to wifi.  But the internet works when I’m using the 3G network.  This doesn’t make any sense. Has this happened to anyone else and how can I fix it?

  179. My EVO 4g has multiple problems. Horrible sound! hear about every 3rd word. Dropped calls. Plastic camera lens clouded. Can you believe they put a plastic camera lens on these POS? Salesman told me afterward that 20% of EVOs were rushed to production and are totally POS. Customer service says send it in, we’ll analyze it, should take no longer than 3 weeks! 3 Weeks?!! Never had this problem with blackberry customer service or nokia. Also their camera lenses were glass. WTF HTC?

  180. This phone is b..l s..t , you up grade s instructed and it causes problems, HTML does not work. Can’t wait it get my iPhone when contract is up next month !!

  181. I have been having lots of weird things happing with my HTC ONE, music player comes on by itself, cannot turn it off, the phone gets really hot. phone dials numbers by itself. Phone does not allow me to answer when I get an incoming call. I took it to sprint today and they wiped it, now I have no speech to text, no camera or camcorder, all of my apps are gone. So are my photos and video.
