If you’re on CM13 and the nightly builds before that, you may have noticed that WhisperPush features can no longer be found on the latest version. The Cyanogenmod officially announced that they have stopped supporting WhisperPush functionality. This feature will actually end by the 1st of February. That means you only have less than two weeks to enjoy the messaging service. It also means other integrations and branches will be affected including those from early CM10.2.

Cyanogenmod will end support from the server side so don’t expect any updates and further services from the devs. We’re hopeful about the success of this one because of the encrypted messaging with WhisperPush. Unfortunately, the Cyanogenmod devs changed their mind.

Not that secured messaging isn’t a priority. It’s just that implementation wasn’t as easy and smooth as anticipated. The CM team suggested that we use the Signal app instead or at least for now.

The WhisperPush service has great potential and is actually very secure but since Signal is being used and adopted by a lot of people, depending on WhisperPush seems unnecessary now. If you’re on WhisperPush, feel free to unregister by simply going to your phone’s Settings> Privacy, WhisperPush directly via the device (CM10.2 – CM12.1). This is sad news for avid users of the feature but some good things must come to an end and it’s one of those.
