A leak from earlier in the week offered a look at Samsung’s yet to be announced S Band. That leak included some images of the band, a bit about how it will pair up with your smartphone, and also included a few key details in terms of the features. While the leak seemed to be on the up and up, it is always nicer when something a bit more official turns up.

In this case we have yet to see Samsung announce the S Band on a global basis, but they have recently been showing it in Germany. This was described as being a small event, and it was followed with immediate availability. Well, immediate pre-order availability for those in Germany. Amazon has the S Band selling for €80.

The S Band, as we had been expecting, is a simple fitness tracker. It will pair with your Samsung smartphone using a Bluetooth 4.0 LE connection, and is then managed by the same app (S Health) that we saw for the Gear Fit. The S Band is a band and the actual activity tracker clips in. This means you’ll be able to swap out bands, and the tracker can also be worn in a clip.

Samsung has the S Band charging over microUSB and with a promised battery life of up to five days. The S Band will sport a five color notification LED, and be able to track items such as steps, distance, calories, and sleep. Bottom line here, while not the same feature set as the Gear Fit, the S Band could be a solid option for the Samsung user looking to count steps.
