Samsung_Vibrant

With Froyo recieving less attention than Gingerbread in the spotlight lately, some Android users with anything less will undoubtedly feel left behind. Fortunately, Samsung’s Galaxy S line in Canada is currently receiving 2.2 updates for the Telus Fascinate and on three versions of the Vibrant sold by Virgin Mobile, Bell, and SaskTel.

Only time will tell whether the official Samsung update to 2.2 or a stable fan-made ROM will reach these US phones first. There is already a decent ROM made by developers “Team Whiskey” for the T-Mobile Vibrant titled I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gingerbread that has proved to be substantially stable. Other updates are soon to follow.

  1. It is actually a nightmare in Canada with the Galaxy S, the update was pulled twice because Samsung/bell tried to blame the update on the very high failure rate on the internal SD cards. Too see the kind of comments and Feedback that customers are giving, look at the Samsungmobile fanpage in Canada http://www.facebook.com/samsungmobilecanada

  2. I updated my Bell Vibrant 19000M a few weeks ago the day the update came out on Kies. The update failed, I tried 9 times, each time reporting a USB error. eventually I used the Kies restore function and lo and behold it “restored” me to Froyo 2.2 and the phone has been perfect ever since. Very stable no issue whatsoever: firmware 2.2, Baseband version I9000UGJK4, Kernel Version 2.6.32.9, Build Number FROYO.UGJK4

  3. I am not saying every single phone is defective, but a large number do seem to be, the wait times on repairs have grown from one-two weeks, to 6 weeks now. Just look at all the comments on the fan page

  4. I bought my US tmo sgh_t959 when it first released months ago. I specifically asked the sales rep when I would get 2.2, he said within the month. After being lied to several more times by samsung and tmo I was ready to move to sprint. But where samsung screwed us over ive learned android helped us out. The real 2.2 upgrade is open source and was leaked weeks ago, if you have any level of reading comprehension and can operate a pc, OR if your phone is rooted and has rom manager app you can go to xda developers and search “I can’t believe its not gingerbread” you can have 2.2 today. Search nero v3 to get a much modded super fast iphone destroying rom if you really want to see what a vibrant can do.
