Samsung has confirmed the US rollout of Kit Kat will begin today. Naturally, that does come with a bit of fine print. Details coming from Samsung bring mention of how the updates will begin today, but also how the “availability varies by carrier and product.” Furthermore, while the rollout is beginning today, the updates will be continuing “throughout the coming months.”

Keeping that in mind — Samsung has offered a list of devices that will be getting Kit Kat. Specifically, Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat. The device list includes “select carrier variants” of the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 zoom, Galaxy S III, Galaxy S III mini, Galaxy Mega, Galaxy Light, Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy Tab 3, Galaxy Note 10.1, and the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition.

Otherwise, Samsung is teasing how this update will be “enriching the Galaxy experience.” To that point, Samsung has offered the following in terms of a changelog;

  • Location Menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.
  • Enhanced Messaging: Enables users to choose between Messages or Hangouts as their preferred default messaging application, and select from a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.
  • Upgraded Google Mobile Service™ (GMS) apps: Users can automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.

Those carrying any of those Samsung devices should begin keeping an eye on the notifications — looking for something referring to a software update. Alternatively, you can also dive into the settings and head to the About device -> Software Update -> Check for updates to try and get the process started.

Needless to say, while those are both valid options, perhaps more important would be to simply begin keeping on eye on the news coming from your specific carrier. It would be nice to see the carriers begin to release similar statements with narrowed timeframes, however as we have seen in the past — it may be a little while before Kit Kat arrives.
