Despite the past problems of Samsung when it comes to their mobile device sales, apparently, they’re still pretty much a very popular brand for smartphones, at least according to Antutu’s benchmark for the Top 10 global popular smartphone and user preferences for the first half of 2016. The stats they shared also point out the fact that mobile users still prefer to have bigger screens and higher resolutions, all the better to watch videos and play games on their smartphones of course.

In the list of 10 most popular smartphones in the world from January – June 2016, half of those in the list are Samsung devices, including the Top 4, specifically the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, and the new flagship, the Galaxy S7, with the Galaxy S7 edge coming 6th in the list. The highest non-Samsung device is the Xiaomi Red Mi Note 3, and Antutu says that its popularity is probably due to its cost efficiency. The same goes for the LeEco 1S (9th) and the Meizu MX5 (7th). But given that the top 4 are expensive flagship devices, then this may be an indication that cost is not an issue for a lot of people.

When it comes to screen size and resolution, people are still very much in love with the bigger screens, with the 5.5-inch devices getting the top spot in screen size and the 1920 x 1080 resolution getting an overwhelming 65.06% in user preference. This is pretty understandable given that people are now using mobile devices to watch movies and shows, play games, etc, and the bigger the screen and the higher the resolution, the better.

A device’s CPU brand seems not to be a major consideration for buyers, but four manufacturers are dominant in that segment: Qualcomm, Samsung, MTK and HISILICON. For the number of cores, it’s clear that 8-core CPU (50%) are preferred by users while the quad-core ones is only at 36.52%. RAM wise, the 3GB is still the most popular but the 4GB is fast catching up, probably because a lot of the new flagships already have that one. For internal storage, the 16GB is still the most popular while the 32GB is slowly gaining traction. You can find more information in the source link.
