Samsung releases S-Pen SDK for the Galaxy Note

If you’re a developer who’s excited about the app opportunities inherent in the Samsung Galaxy Note‘s included capacitive stylus, then break out the Mountain Dew and get ready for some long nights in the warm glow of your monitor. Samsung just posted the 1.0 release of the S-Pen SDK, allowing any developer with the skills and the fancy to create apps that take advantage of the software tools built into the Note. Between the stylus and a full Wacom digitizer it’s become an object of desire for the budding smartphone artist.

Samsung has already filled the Note with several apps that use the S-Pen to the fullest, and made no small note of this in their advertising. You can check out their latest Twitter-inspired campaign here. The company was already hyping up the SDK when it announced the note at IFA in August. With a rarely-seen stylus, a gigantic 5.3-inch 1280 x 800 display, the Wacom digitizer and some high-end specs, the Galaxy Note is the smartphone to beat if you don’t mind an admittedly huge form factor.

Assuming that you can get your hands on one, that is. The Galaxy Note has been on sale for weeks in the UK and other European markets. But the Galaxy Note is a rare sight in the United States, where no carriers have stepped up to offer the device. It’s surprising considering that screen sizes seem to be stretching everywhere – we’ve heard nary a peep since an AT&T-equipped Note was seen roaming the FCC s few months ago.
