With 4K video (hopefully) soon to become a standard for movies and videos, the storage capacity of our gadgets and laptops may not be able to contain these super hi-res files. And while external hard drives or cloud storage are our go-to solutions, sometimes you need something more stable and more safe. Samsung has announced at the ongoing CES 2016 that they now have a new generation of portable solid state drives with the T3.

The Samsung Portable SSD T3 can fit into your palm and won’t break your arm to do so because it is light at approximately 2 ounces and 2.9 x 2.3 inches. But it can carry as much as 2TB of files on its tiny frame. What’s even better is that transferring files from the T3 to and from your computer, laptop, or even mobile devices is “blazingly fast” with up to 450MB per second and using a USB 3.1 interface, which as well all know is faster than the usual ones we’re used to.

And because it is a solid state drive, the T3 is more stable than your average external hard drives. It doesn’t have moving parts and so it’s more sturdy to endure damage and data loss while it’s bouncing around your bag or bumping along vehicles. It can withstand up to 1500G of force and survive a 2 meter drop as well (although of course, it is not advisable to test those facts). In terms of security, you can equip it with a password and its has a AES 256-bit hardware encryption which brings you a high level of security and protection.

The Samsung Portable SSD T3 will be available in several markets by February 2016, including the US, China, Korea, and several European countries as well. They haven’t revealed the price points yet, but the storage capacity will be 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB. The device will be on display at the Samsung booth at CES 2016 until January 9.
