The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the year-old Samsung Galaxy S III was almost seen as a blessing until users started experiencing critical problems after installing it. Samsung UK has just issued an official statement that doesn’t give much information about the issues but at least acknowledges it and promises to look into it.

Like most press releases of its kind, Samsung isn’t really saying much. It does say that it is investigating the issues reported, though doesn’t give details on what those issues are. But so far, users have reported several annoying and critical problems with their devices, ranging from WiFi and Bluetooth audio issues, to random freezing especially when taking calls, to performance problems like poor RAM management, battery drain, and delays in waking up from standby.

The latest Jelly Bean update started rolling out to Galaxy S III owners early this month. News of the update was met with anticipation as it breathes new life into Samsung’s previous flagship, updating not only the Android version but also adding compatibility with the company’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch, which might not be something worth waiting for after all. It is rather unfortunate, if not unacceptable, that problems of this number and magnitude have passed unnoticed by Samsung’s QA.

In order to prevent the damage from spreading further, Samsung is temporarily halting the rollout of the Android 4.3 update but promises to resume it as soon as possible. Of course, that doesn’t really give much comfort to users who have already installed the update and are left with an almost unusable device until Samsung fixes things on their end.

  1. After 4.3 upgrade the guidance started working weird

    1) PROBLEM: Upgraded to Android 4.3 from 4.2 last week and now the beginning of verbal instructions is cut off. Now instead of “take a left on New Hope Road SW” now says “SW” – is there a setting I need to change or is this a bug you are working on fixing? Waze is fatally disabled for me….

    2) WAZE RESPONSE:

    Thank you for your email,
So for now the only way is to wait for the release of OS 4.4 which will fix this issue.

    3) WAZE RESPONSE: Sometimes, uninstalling, removing the Waze data from the SD card and reinstalling can help. Think of it as a first line of defense that won’t cause you to lose any of your settings. You can do this by putting the SD card into your computer and deleting from there. Of course this assumes that your phone uses an SD card.

All this being said, if you have spoken with support, that is the better approach to take. This Facebook account is meant to provide users with basic support for common problems users typically experience. I’m sorry to hear that this is the solution you were given and will follow up with them to find out if there is any other option that can help

    4) WAZE RESPONSE: I spoke with support following our conversation yesterday and we are double checking with our devs to see if anything can be done as this issue seems to be affecting several people. That’s no guarentee that this will be solved immediately but it’s certainly on our radar now. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Hopefully we can get it solved quickly. (We also might need some logs if we can’t reproduce, I’ll keep you posted)

    • They need to look into GS4 “woes” too! I started having allot of delays starting app’s, stuttering when scrolling in almost every app especially Google apps & contacts, when i say delays starting app’s I mean 3 seconds long… I’m sure they know about galaxy 4 got acted up to with the update but obviously they don’t want any bad publicity so they’re just pointing at the GS3, then we’ll all get a new update gs3 & 4 to fix both phones with gs4 looking as if it never had anything wrong… It’s so bad I’m considering rooting & flashing this phone or just get a new moto or LG phone.
