Because it knows that having two SIMs just isn’t enough these days, Samsung has just unleashed a new smartphone model than supports three. But other than this arcane ability to hold three SIMS at the same time, this rather low-end smartphone might fail to impress you.

The Galaxy Star Trios is practically a rehash of the Galaxy Star launched early last year. This one has a 3.14-inch 240×320 resolution screen, a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S1, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of storage, and a 1,300 mAh battery. The small smartphone runs, at least, Android 4.1. But let us not, of course, forget triple SIM support, which is probably the only reason you’d even considering buying one of these.

Amusingly, long-time rival and compatriot LG has also launched its own triple SIM treat last week. The absurdly named LG Optimus L1 II Tri has pretty much the same hardware features as Samsung’s offering, down to the 2 megapixel rear camera. The competition, then, will most likely boil down to software features, marketing, and price.

Even more amusingly, both smartphones are only available in Brazil. Unfortunately, Samsung has a higher asking price for the Galaxy Star Trios, around $165 to be exact. That might be a hard thing to sell vis-a-vis LG’s price tag, but a triple SIM smartphone might be already be a hard to thing sell anyway.
