Samsung has been more than willing to release multiple variants of each model in the past. There have been mini-models, as well as Zoom and Active models. We’ve yet to see many of these for the Galaxy S5, however it looks like Samsung may be prepping a Prime model.

The Galaxy S5 Prime name has turned up in a few rumors so far, and as of today it seems the handset (name) has been discovered on the Samsung website. A device sporting a model number of SM-G906S/K/L has been discovered on the “Find My Mobile” portal.

The rumors suggest the Galaxy S5 Prime will feature a QHD (2560 x 1440) display. Along with bump in the display resolution (as compared to the 1920 x 1080 on the regular Galaxy S5), the Prime model is also expected to arrive with an Exynos 5430 octa-core processor. The processor details came thanks to a leaked benchmark report. For comparison, the Galaxy S5 in the US has a Snapdragon 801 processor, and the Galaxy S5 outside the US has an Exynos 5422 octa-core processor.

While the bump in specs should be enough to justify a “Prime” moniker, it also appears the casing may see some changes. The Galaxy S5 Prime is expected to ditch the plastic construction in favor of something made of metal. We just wonder what this all means for the faux leather backing that Samsung has grown so fond of in recent history.

  1. If the S5 prime comes with better build quality as the S5 should have, it’s the phone I would have bought. The HTC M8 feels like it’s worth the money, the S5 didn’t to me.
