Now that the Galaxy Nexus finally is here for most of the world it appears everyone has moved on to the next big thing — and with good reason. The next big thing being the Galaxy S III from Samsung. We all love their top of the line hardware, not to mention those AMOLED screens and today we have what could be our first leak from the Galaxy S III’s camera.

While camera EXIF data can be changed and faked we have good reason to believe this could be real. According to PocketNow the image you so kindly see above was taken with what the EXIF data is calling the Samsung GT-I9500 — the highest numerical value for a smartphone Samsung has used. Not only that but the location data also tracks this sneaky little image back to Suwon, South Korea, which is also home to a huge Samsung factory. Now this could very easily be a fake but we’ll just hope that it indeed is real.

Just for an idea on naming — the original Galaxy S was labeled with GT-I9000, the Galaxy S II was GT-I9100 and the Galaxy Nexus is rocking GT-I9250. We could see some other handsets in the meantime fill that numerical gap until the Galaxy S III gets revealed or this could be fake. Anyone notice the “Samsung” label on the back of that TV or whatever is pictured?

Earlier rumors suggest the Galaxy S III will be rocking 3D so this could also make sense that the EXIF data only shows the camera to be 5 megapixels. Maybe we’ll have an awesome camera like the 5 MP Galaxy Nexus — only two of them on the SGSIII for 3D. I was hoping for an improved 8 megapixel camera or maybe even 12 but we’ll all just have to wait and see. Interesting indeed!

  1. Image quality is nothing to write home about so hopefully they can work that out because if the camera is the same as the Galaxy Nexus it will be a serious letdown

  2. Which Galaxy Nexus do you have with an “awesome camera?”  Can’t be the GSM or LTE versions, bc that’s true of neither phone.

    • Kind of my question. No review I’ve read has been that happy with the camera compared to the Galaxy SII’s camera, and it had nothing to do with megapixel count. Speed, perhaps, but that was primarily software-related from the impression I got.

      • Well yes the SGSII 8 megapixel camera is excellent but so is the Galaxy Nexus even though its only 5 megapixel. As you said — MP count isn’t everything.

The Gnex shutter is a bit too fast and can sometimes be blurry but as long as it autofocuses before I click snap they turn out quite excellent

      • Well, that’s the first good thing I’ve heard about it, so I’m glad to know it’s not as flawed as all the other reviews implied. Not that they claimed it was truly bad, but all were baffled by it when they compared the results directly to pics from the SGSII. It was a clear downgrade as far as most articles suggested.

      • gotta agree with this.  sure, it isn’t a bad camera, but it sure doesn’t stack up like it should.  the best pics i’ve seen from the gnex haven’t come close to the best pictures i’ve seen from an iphone 4s or gsII.  if the gsII weren’t 3/4 a year old by the time the lte gnex came out it wouldn’t be so frustrating.  i can’t imagine they would possibly be okay with putting an inferior camera in the GSIII…

  3. I hope the SGSIII will not have no stinkin 3D screen and 5MP camera. We want a 12MP camera with zero shutter lag and much improved software than we’ve ever seen on earth. I’m pulling for you Sammy, you can do it.
