The Samsung Galaxy S 5 is currently in development stages, but what isn’t known is what it will look like or feel like in the palm of your hand. With over 10 million S 4‘s sold already, it’s exciting to think about how different (or similar) the S 5 will be, and whether or not it will be an evolution or a brand new product altogether.

As of now, all Galaxy’s have had plastic bodies, which are extremely durable, and cheap to manufacture. However, when consumers pick up a new, high tech product, they’re not looking for “cheap” – they’re looking for high quality, even if the product itself (in terms of pricepoint) is on the lower end of the scale.

That’s exactly why rumors of a new all metal body for the S5 that are circulating should not be ignored. If it was to have an all metal body, it would of course be more expensive to manufacture, but in turn, could increase brand/quality perception, which may in turn also increase sales. The theorized metal to be used would be aluminum, which itself is a very light, durable metal. However, it is difficult to keep free of dings and other small imperfections.

Also, by using an all aluminum unibody construction, it will likely be that the owner of the product cannot manually replace the battery of their S 5, and may instead need to take it into a registered Samsung retailer, or a private shop that specializes in Smartphones. By doing this, Samsung hopes to again be neck and neck with Apple in terms of brand quality, and expects an enhancement in customer relations and service. HTC as well has begun to use aluminum for their One series, and reviews are already pouring in about how much the consumers love it. Samsung won’t just stand back and watch all the accolades to competitors pour in; they want a piece of the pie as well.

All this aluminum talk only further verifies the “Design 3.0” news, which was purported to be part of Samsung’s new design direction. Although nothing is entirely set in stone, there is a very good possibility that this may happen. Either way, the S 5 is still about a year away from introduction, so we’ll have lots to speculate about until then. It’s never too early to start. Right?

  1. I’d welcome it. I don’t particularly care for the HTC One. It doesn’t have what I really need except for an IPS LCD display.

  2. The need for metal or aluminum is tech site driven. Actual customers who are faithful to the brand truly could care less about this ran down issue. Bottom line here millions upon millions are definitely more than satisfied with how things are today.

      • I have an HTC One, I must prefer the look and feel of it. The S4 is a bit cheaper to make than the HTC One. If you don’t believe me, do research on it. Additionally, samsung has to be more aggressive with clocking down the S4 because of heat restrictions. These are reduced in a metal phone. You guys pick on Apples choice of cheaper products, when samsung is the same. Both of them just really want a lot of profit. Samsung passed apple in profits. I digress, stop defending the selfish company decisions.

      • I could care less what a metal phone feels like. My plastic phone has better signal quality and much fewer dropped calls than a phone enclosed in metal, and that’s a fact. I bet you own and use either an HTC One or iPhone 5 with a big fat ugly PLASTIC case on it right? Or is it rubber? LOL. When are these blogs gonna shut up about this metal crap? Once Samsung puts metal on their phone, I’m sure you bloggers are gonna start a new trend that Samsung needs to implement just because Apple or HTC did it, of which whoare inferior companies.

  3. It’s a total misconception that metal=premium – it all depends on what metal you’re talking about obviously. It so happens that aluminium is one of the cheapest metals around, so cheap in fact it’s used for making kitchen foil wrapping. Apple and HTC have craftily duped everybody into thinking their metal phones are of ‘higher quality’ when in reality samsung galaxy s4 is more expensive to produce thn either owing to higher value components and sturdier construction.

How easy it is to fool the masses sometimes.

    • Wow, what a tool. There is no magical conspiracy that metal costs more than plastic, can be lighter. It is also better for the environment, is stronger, and dissipates heat better. It is by all intention a superior product for a phone. Additionally, it does look nicer.

  4. No, no, no. Replaceable battery is my no. 1 reason for buying Samsung. I am not going to sacrifice that for something as shallow as looks.

    • Agreed completely. Right now I get about 6 hours or less of run time on my Galaxy Note which gets heavy use. I keep a spare battery in my pocket to get me through the day.

    • Agree one of my fav things about my s4/s3 is being able to switch out batteries nothing like having a spare battery or being able to pull ur battery when flashing/installing new roms etc e etc etc….. One of the reasons I didn’t go for the the htc one

Did Samsung gave this statement? Or did you just make up this statement.

  6. I have an IPhone 5 and my boyfriend has a Galaxy S4 both on Sprint. We have both completely switched. I was always an android girl and him, an apple guy. But now I am thinking of switching back to Android. I mean, the S4 kicks ass of all the current phones out. He barely touches his screen and it just does want he wants. It’s like magic in your hand.. I don’t think apple can compete with Android anymore. Might be time for them to either step it up BIG time or just throw in the towel. Every time apple comes out with a new phone or computer, ect. It is just one thing that is different. The I4s & I5 are similar only size is different.. That was a dumb move for Apple when android makes drastic changes every time they have a new phone. I don’t know about you guys but if the iPhone 5s or 6 isn’t better then the galaxy S4 then I think ill be switching back to android.

    • I think the S4 is very ugly. I much prefer the looks of my HTC One. That said, apple should have increased the screen size. If they had, I would have upgraded with them. I was jailbroken on my iPhone, but it wasn’t a requirement (though I did love that). Still, my android is still running old software and it is buggy as crap. I can’t wait for the iPhone 6.

  7. Android is good but it looks like Tizen OS is coming on strong now. Personally ever since Google did the back room deal with the government I say the hell with them. I am looking for alternatives. And I am sorry apple loves since Steve Jobs Died so did Apple.
