While we’re still waiting for the folks from Samsung to officially announce their new Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet for the US, it recently was spotted at Office Depot for the somewhat high price of $399. After launching in the UK earlier this month a US release in imminent, but for now all we have are a few leaks suggesting an April release date.

After revealing their new 8-inch tablet that also manages to double as a smartphone back at Mobile World Congress, we’ve all been waiting to get our hands on it. Samsung’s designed a decent little 8-inch slate complete with their popular S-Pen stylus and now it looks like it could be hitting the US sooner than later.

According to recent leaks Office Depot has the slate online listed as coming soon (but out of stock) with a price listed at $399 for the 16GB model. Now I don’t know about you guys, but compared to the Nexus 7 for $199 that sounds a little high. That’s just our opinion. We’ll reserve judgement until Samsung confirms the details, but this could be the final price come release date. It also resembles the high price over in the UK.

The slate does rock an 8-inch 1280 x 800 HD display and Samsung 1.6 GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, but it only runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at the moment. You can see our hands-on from the link below for a better idea of what to expect from this sleek slate, and we’ll report back when we hear anything official. If the Note 8 retails for $399 for the 16GB model will you be buying one?

  1. I was interested in this tablet but at that price no way, might as well get the 6 month old Note 10 for the same price.

  2. i said the same thing today, at 400 i really have to like the size, i love my note 10.1 and want something more portable than my 10.1, I was hoping as high as $350. I really have to like the size if Im gonna buy it.

  3. I mean, it is more expensive than Nexus, BUT on paper the specs of the samsung seem to be better, Nexus does not have SD card slot (definitely a con for me), and I bet you won’t be able to use stylus control as effectively with the Nexus as with Samsung.

Apple is a different story, but the Mini ipad just does not cut it for me. I never liked apple’s portable products.

Josh and Cory … I would LOVE to see where you guys are shopping, because Note 10.1 (NEW) does not seem to be going under 400 anywhere online that I could see.

  4. If Samsung added in S translation plus a few other features of the Samsung Galaxy S4 then the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 would be well worth the $399 for 16GB

    • I’m pretty sure S Translate does nothing more than piggy back off of Google Translate. Even if it is their own thing, you can do the same thing with Google Translate now.

  5. While I thought it would be in the $250-$300 range because of the S-Pen tech, with $299 being what I thought would be the sweet spot, I was sold on it from day one.

The S-Pen functionality, the perfect size (not too small like a 7′, not too big like a 10′) with all the features of their other tablets, and Awesome Note would make this my go to device day in, day out.

(I hope no one from Samsung is reading this but) I’m all in as soon as possible even at $399.99 :/

  6. I’ve owned and sold 4 tablets so far… Apple, Google, Blackberry, Samsung…
    I wouldn’t pay over $150 for one now….

    so NO.. not for me
