Samsung officially announced the Galaxy Mega back in mid-April. That announcement included word of a 6.3-inch and a 5.8-inch smartphone and while we haven’t seen much for either model since, it looks like some pricing has been detailed for the Mega 6.3. The details are coming by way of UK retailer Clove who have the handset listed for pre-order with an expected shipping date sometime in July.

Diving right in here, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 price is showing as £383.99. Or more specifically, as £459.99 with VAT being included. Samsung has yet to say whether the Galaxy Mega would be coming to the US, however the £459.99 price point would be nearly $700. Otherwise, the Galaxy Mega smartphones are also expected to launch this month in Europe and Russia.

Pricing aside, lets talk specs. The Galaxy Mega display may be big in size, but it is not big in resolution. That 6.3-inch display is sporting a 720p resolution. Looking in comparison, the recently launched GALAXY S 4 has a 1080p display. The other point that may be an issue for some, the Clove listing for the Galaxy Mega 6.3 shows network connectivity as being for dualband (900/2100) HSPA+ and quadband GSM/EDGE. Basically, no LTE.

The handset will be running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with the TouchWiz user interface with hardware specs include 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 1.5GB of RAM and a dual-core 1.7GHz processor. Those making the purchase can also expect to find a 3200 mAh battery along with a 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera and an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera.

Bottom line here, while the display is bigger than what many expect to see in a smartphone, the specs are mostly a step down as compared to other higher-end devices currently available. Aside from the 1080p to 720p step down in resolution, there is also less RAM and less processing power. Of course, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 could likely serve as both your tablet and smartphone which means one less device to carry and for some, that may be a perk.
