The Samsung Galaxy J might have been a smartphone that has skipped a few radars considering its target audience, but in the East it has had a bit of an impact. Now the device that has initially launched for the Japanese market is believed to be making its way to Taiwan.

An invitation addressed to the Taiwanese market bears a partial outline of a smartphone and the words “Just Arrived”. From the text and shape of the device, many speculate that it is meant to tease the unveiling of the Galaxy J in the Taiwan next week. The smartphone is interesting for a few reasons, particularly Samsung’s slight divergence from its usual design.

The Galaxy J, on paper, sounds like a merging of the Galaxy S 4 and the Galaxy Note 3. It sports many of the S Pen powered phablet’s hardware specifications, particularly the 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 and the 3 GB of RAM. It does, however, inherit the Galaxy S 4’s smaller 5.0-inch 1920×1080 resolution display. The most striking thing about the Galaxy J, however, is its supposed nod towards Japanese aesthetics, sporting an appearance that is remarkably different from, say, the Galaxy S 4. It does make one wonder whether this style will also appeal to buyers in Taiwan, but it does offer a unique, not to mention more powerful, alternative to the Galaxy S 4 flagship.

Early last month, the Galaxy J was also spotted at the NCC, the Taiwanese equivalent of the US FCC, which usually happens a month before a device’s announcement. That could then give credence to the date on the Samsung invitation which points to December 9 as a significant date to note down.
