Earlier today we saw details from Samsung about how they are planning to release a smartphone with a curved display. Those details came from Samsung, however according to some reports coming out of Korea, it looks like that is not the only item the company is currently working on. In fact, those reports are pointing towards a new series coming next year.
It was said that Samsung is working on the Galaxy F series of devices, which would be higher-end as compared to the current Galaxy S series. What we are seeing comes by way of ETNews who are reporting that Samsung is working on the Galaxy F series and they are expected to arrive early next year and with a full metal body.
Considering we have seen plenty of rumors suggesting Samsung was working on handsets with less plastic we remain a bit skeptical. But with that in mind, a new series (in this case, the Galaxy F) could be a good way for Samsung to make the transition from plastic to metal. Of course, just because the Galaxy F series is said to be coming — we aren’t expecting the Galaxy S series to go away.
Aside from the full metal body, the Galaxy F series is expected to bring some other higher-end specs. A few points mentioned in the report include an Octa-core Exynos processor and 16 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS). Otherwise, no word in terms of display size, or sizes just yet. There was also mention of the handset dropping with Android 4.2, though given a release coming in early 2014 — we would hope to see Android 4.3 or even 4.4 Kit Kat.
While we wait for additional details and hopefully something direct from Samsung confirming the F series, we cannot help but wonder about price. After all, with newer devices landing at around $200 on contract and even more for the Galaxy Note 3, we wonder how much higher Samsung is going to be willing to go.
