Samsung originally announced the Galaxy Camera 2 back in early-January. The news came just ahead of CES, and while many were hoping to learn more about the pricing and availability during the show, Samsung remained quiet. Well, flash forward till the present day and we know have those details.

The Galaxy Camera 2 will be priced at $449.99 and available beginning in mid-March. Otherwise, as we had learned back in January, the Galaxy Camera 2 will be running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Samsung is also touting the camera as offering 28 SMART modes for shooting, of which 13 are new. Some of the other software specifics include the SMART 3.0 features, which include goodies such as Tag & Go, Photo Beam, and Remote Viewfinder.

The camera itself sports a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor with 21x optical zoom, wide ISO range (100-25600), and optical image stabilization (OIS). Samsung has this one powered by a quad-core 1.6GHz processor with 2GB of RAM, and sitting with a 4.8-inch HD Super Clear Touch LCD. Users can also expect to find 8GB of internal storage (with approx 2.8GB for user storage) and a microSD card slot with support for cards up to 64GB in size.

The battery is 2000 mAh, and Samsung has the Galaxy Camera 2 packed with WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and GPS/GLONASS. All that having been said, so far there hasn’t been anything mentioned in terms of a cellular connected model. A few additional images of the camera can be seen sitting in the gallery below.

  1. I’ll be buying one as soon as it’s released. Not all of us are fools
enough to be tied down to a two year contract costing thousands of $
just to call or text. I have an LG 840G Tracfone for that.
    The SGC2
is an awesome portable computer (1.6 GHz Exynos and 2 GB Ram) that
happens to have a very cool camera attached. Using the various Android
camera apps with a real 21x glass lens and a sensor larger than the one
cell phones use means you can create awesome photos.
    The original
sold very well and this one will sell even more. It’s basically an S4
without paying way too much for data transfer.
All of these releases say Mid-March but retailers like Amazon say March 1st. I think they are referring to the arrival at brick and mortar stores.

  2. I wouldn’t buy one of these. I have the current Galaxy Camera (EK-GC100), and while it isn’t a total POS, it isn’t all that great. It doesn’t take pictures very fast or well, has many annoying and quirky things about it, and the OS has never been updated in any appreciable way (maybe bug fixes). It still runs the same horrible camera app that it came with. That is the one thing that should make it shine, the ability to have a beautiful, easy to use interface, but instead that has been a huge disappointment.

If I were anyone out there, I would just get a better camera with wifi. About the only feature I really like with the Galaxy Camera is the automatic upload of photos to Google Plus and Dropbox.

Of course, don’t get me wrong, the screen is almost too big and makes it hard to not touch while holding the camera. And it seems fast, running Chrome and everything very decently. It hits the specs well, but just doesn’t come together as a package to be a very good camera, which after all is what it is supposed to be.
