It was only a few months ago that we heard of Samsung shutting down the Milk video service and this time, we’re hearing rumors that the Milk Music streaming service will be shut down as well. This is in line with the rumor that the South Korean tech giant is buying the Tidal music service. Samsung vehemently killed the idea immediately.

The music streaming service is only two years old but unfortunately, the subscriber base isn’t expanding. It has bigger rivals like Apple Music, Pandora, and Spotify. Tidal music service is even bigger. When it first launched a couple of years ago, it had potential but Samsung never released related apps to be used on other mobile devices from other manufacturers. The service is exclusive to Samsung devices only.

The company already opened the Milk Music on the web and for smart TVs but to no avail. Perhaps even Samsung gadget owners think that there are far better apps and services available. The free service have some fans but the premium tier isn’t getting a lot of attention. We have yet to hear about Samsung’s plans for the Milk Music. We just had confirmation that there will be no Tidal acquisition.

We don’t know what’s happening over at Samsung’s Milk Music division but sources of Variety are saying that the number of employees are being reduced. There’s no confirmation yet but we heard of layoffs happening the past few weeks.

When asked about the issue, a Samsung spokesperson only replied, “It is our policy not to comment on personnel matters. Samsung remains committed to delivering engaging, connected entertainment experiences through our Milk platform.”
