While Shakespeare indeed holds up through time (well, most of his work anyway), this new generation may not be as keen to learn or appreciate his plays, sonnets, and what not, except if it has been adapted in a more modern or contemporary setting or language. But Samsung and The Royal Shakespeare Company believe that it is time to bring the Bard, or at least one of his most well-known plays onto our mobile devices with the RE: Shakespeare app.

Whether you’re an actual fan or if you’re curious as to what this fellow is about, this app is a must have. Students will probably need to download this app if they’re studying Shakespeare in school, but we’re pretty sure their teachers won’t mind, if it means they will be more interested in class. And if the “realistic and immersive content” is not enough, then maybe the lure of British actors led by David Tennant (who has previously played Hamlet and Berowne) and other Shakespeare experts, including director Iqbal Kahn should do the trick.

The app brings interactive games that should help you relive and memorize the most memorable lines from the play. There are also short lecture clips about the play, and maybe later on about the rest of Shakespeare’s work. You can also watch a scene from the play as presented by the RSC, and in 360 degree version. Human beatbox Shlomo has also remixed the play, and maybe for some, this will be more to their liking. And if you’re practicing to be part of a local or school production of Much Ado, you can rehearse opposite actual actors from the RSC.

The app is actually part of Samsung’s Pride Rediscovery program whose aim is to bring back national pride in various cultures by highlighting the most well-known literary works from each area. While the target market are teenagers, specifically the 11-18 age group, this can also be something that the adults can enjoy, specifically those who are fans of the Bard. You can download the app for selected Android devices from the Google Play Store.
