If you are like me, you like the game Risk. I’ve played it since as early as I can remember, like back on board games even. It has been out in one form or another for most platforms and gaming consoles too. A group of Minnesota-based developers and friends submitted a unique app idea to the Twin Cities Startup Weekend, a local competition that challenges entrepreneurs and developers to build a prototype business over the course of a single weekend.

The Minnesota-based team was lucky enough to end up winning the Twin Cities Startup Weekend Challenge with the idea. The actual Risk-like gameplay is a location based game that will require users to use a check-in system where you can attack and QonqR the city you are personally in, or near. As long as your army of “Nanobots” is large, and strong enough for the battle you should be able to overtake cities in no time. If you live in the middle of no where and have no surrounding cities to battle, or those that can’t travel, they have you covered also. You can use real money to buy a “Virtual Missle” and send your large and all mighty army of Nanobots over via the missle and take on whoever, and wherever city you choose. So go ahead and take over Japan from your couch in Chicago.

Overall this has the opportunity to be a great game that involves lots of people. It could be a lot better than many of the current location based games currently in the Android Market. They plan to release QonqR for Android, iOS, and Win Phone 7 coming in 2011. For more information and to hear in detail from the developers themselves. Check out the video below.
