R-TYPE II is a horizontal scrolling shooter game that dates back to 1989. The game was released for a variety of systems including the Amiga, Atari ST and Game Boy. Of course, before the console releases, the game was found in the arcade. Key for today though, R-TYPE II is now available for Android.

The game release comes courtesy of DotEmu who began teasing the release as “coming soon” back in January. Well, the release has come and those interested will be able to get some classic shooter style gaming fun for $1.99. The original features, as well as some new additions are included.

The game requires Android 2.3.3 or later for use, and that includes support for Google Play Game Services as well as a variety of Android game systems. DotEmu mentioned support for the NVIDIA SHIELD, M.O.J.O., MOGA controllers, the Xperia Play and others. There is also specific mention of proper tablet support. Simply put, assuming your device has Android 2.3.3 or later, you should be good to go with R-TYPE II.

Otherwise, looking towards those features. These include six levels of action, each of which has a unique boss. The game also allows players to upgrade to new weapons, power-ups, and attachments to fight waves of enemies. Players also have the option to choose between the original graphics or the improved set. Some of the new arrivals include three difficulty settings, customizable controls, auto-fire on/off, and either touch or a virtual D-Pad for controls.
