We spent a bit of hands-on time with the Qualcomm Toq smartwatch back in September. Qualcomm offered a decent look at the watch at the time, however the pricing and release details were a bit more open ended. Regardless of what was, or wasn’t said at the time though, Qualcomm has dropped a press release this morning and announced the price and release date for the Toq smartwatch.

The watch will be available next month, specifically, on December 2nd and Qualcomm will have the Toq priced at $349. The watch will be taking advantage of the Mirasol display technology which according to Qualcomm, should mean the Toq will be able to provide an “always-on experience with multiple days of battery life.” And perhaps just as important for some, given the use of the Mirasol technology, the Toq display should be readable even in direct sunlight.

Otherwise, the Toq will have Qualcomm WiPower LE technology for wireless charging along with support for a Stereo Bluetooth audio experience. The watch will also allow the user to accept, reject calls, view text messages, get meeting alerts and more. The watch will also come pre-loaded with a weather and stock app from AccuWeather and E*Trade. As for device support, Qualcomm has said the Toq will support Android 4.0.3 or above.

But with that in mind, it was also noted that Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is preferred. Along with the watch itself, Qualcomm will also be offering a headset. We have yet to see a price for the headset, however Qualcomm has said it will bring “high quality stereo audio” and feature a dedicated tweeter and woofer. The headset is also able to charge wirelessly and in fact, the headset will be able to charge using the same charger as the watch.

That having been said, a video from our initial hands-on time with the Qualcomm Toq can be seen below. And otherwise, while the Toq does appear to have some potential given the Mirasol display technology, we cannot help but wonder if people will be able to get passed the $349 price tag, which is $50 higher than the price of the Samsung Galaxy Gear, which was dubbed by many as being expensive.
