Having a more rugged variant of a flagship device may not be the most prurient practice for some OEMs but Samsung has seen a market for this kind of smartphone. They’ve done it before for the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy S6 by making Active versions of it, the Galaxy S5 Active and Galaxy S6 Active respectively of course. Are they going to do the same for the Galaxy S7, or maybe even just upgrade the current Galaxy S6 Active?

It seems that a new Active device may have made its way to India for testing. Model number SM-G891A has been imported for one reason or another, and that model number is significant because the Galaxy S6 Active was SM-G890A. But if it is indeed an upgrade version of the S6 Active or even an S7 Active, what new thing can it offer since the new Galaxy S7 is already water and dust resistant?

Well, the leaked importation document of course will not tell us anything but maybe it will have something to do with the body itself, since the flagship has metal and glass bodies and doesn’t necessarily scream rugged. Most Active smartphones are of course made of more durable stuff so that drops and bumps will not affect them much.

Until we learn more about this SM-G891A we’re of course just speculating. If it’s already in the testing stage, then we probably will know in a few months or so. Would you be interested in a Samsung Galaxy S7 Active variant?
