If you were already amazed with Samsung’s Galaxy S6 edge and S6 edge Plus and their curved screens, then you might want to brace yourself for this one, which might seem the stuff that sci-fi shows are made of, but may actually become a reality soon. At least, that’s what tech startup Polyera is trying to do. They will be releasing their Wove wearable to show off what flexible electronics is all about.

Their Flexible Thin-Film Transistors will hopefully be demonstrated to its full capacity when the Wove is released by next year. And they’re also doing it to get other OEMs and tech companies on board with this “proof of concept” product. The snap-bracelet-like wearable will be paired with a monochrome E-ink display and will have the ability to show email previews, news headlines, weather forecasts, among other things. When not in use, patterns and wallpapers will be shown while the device is still in zero-power.

According to Polyera, the problem with these flexible devices isn’t just about the display, but rather, more with the companion electronics. There were others that already tried this before and rolled out ebook readers and tablets a few years back, but they weren’t able to create something that would survive the daily wear and tear. Hopefully, with their Wove device, they will be able to show that it is possible to have a resilient and working device.

Wove won’t be available until mid-2016 so there aren’t any pricing and availability details yet. But Polyera’s ultimate dream is to be able to use the device’s backplane panel for OLED panels and eventually, use it to show full-color video and more.
