While India is considered to be one of the most sought after markets in terms of mobile consumption, one hindrance to its further growth, which is typical of emerging nations like them, is a culture that is not that big on credit cards. That’s why alternative payment gateways for online and mobile purchases are a very welcome thing. Google Play cards are now available for purchase from retail stores and can be used to buy apps, games, and other digital content for users’ Android devices.

The prepaid cards and vouchers became available in India a few months ago, but now they have officially launched the physical Google Play gift cards which Android users can buy from various retail stores in the country. They can buy cards in denominations of Rs. 500, Rs. 1000 Rs. 1500, similar to the pre-paid cards from before. Once they have loaded the cards on to their Google Play accounts through the redemption code, they will now be able to buy in-app content, movies, books, and other digital content.

To entice users to purchase the Google Play cards and use them to buy stuff online, Google has prepared some special offers exclusive for users from India on Google Play Apps, Games, Books, and Movies. The cards will be available at Spice Hotspot, Vijay Sales, Planet M, Planet Mobile and Sangeetha Mobiles or online on Snapdeal.

According to Saurabh Agarwal, Head of Retail Partnerships – Google Play, India, having this option for users will give them more opportunities to enjoy the wide variety of content that they can access from Google’s world wide web of movies, books, magazines, apps, and games. Plus, they will be able to enjoy these across all their Android devices, just by paying once.
